Come on ,where's the point in not using the whole surface of an already-small screen? Those real-media guys must me really dumb (i guess not only one of them has a Series60 phone) not to implement full-screen function which is so f****n' simple compared with decoding/streaming technology in RealPlayer.

Until fullscreen, .rm definitely sucks :)

Try http://www.mobiclip.com for both mobile player and PC encoder. The quality is astonishing, the best i've seen by now.

The encoder has only a 'quality' slider, default at 75%. Encoding process is done in two steps. Final result for 75% setting is a little under 2MB/minute, which is pretty huge.

Audio must be encoded in PCM format, so i suspect much of the file size is the audio stream.

Also, the Symbian player doesn't have a way to fast-forward/rewind :(

.mo all the way! and u dont have to turn the screen around 0_o u can edit it so it does to get "widescreen" but u dont have to, its up to u... also u can totaly decide the quality in .mo... u can have the same quality as on ur comp if u want!

rm for sure, it holds a good to good+ quality but less space. Where as the .mo formate is a lot bigger like almost twice the size and a little better quality

You can decrease the file size in virtual dub by changing the compression and framerate settings, and it will still blow away .rm in my opinion.

At first, .mo files amazed me with their quality. But then, I took a second look at the details, and the situation is not so fine at all:

The ways you can adjust the size of the file are very few:
- resizing (however, the ideal size is, of course, 208x176, so this is not really an option)
- frames per second (i tried an minimum acceptable, in my opinion, of 15)
- 'Quality' setting in the encoder, between 0% - 100%

Sound MUST be 16KHz-16bit-mono (and you can't have video without sound, sound is mandatory)

I compressed 'Genesis - I Can't Dance'. Results:
- at 75% quality in encoder, 15fps: crystal quality, ~2.3MB/min (310kbit/sec)
- at 0% quality setting, 15fps: very, very crap, worst than a 40kbit/sec .rm file. However, it took ~1.3MB/min (170kbit/sec) for that horrible encoding.

Conclusion? Well, I remember i converted once a collection of clips FOR COMPUTER, 320x240, 25fps using a 350kbit/sec bandwidth, and the quality was acceptable. But they could be played full-screen, not on a 208x176 resolution. Therefore, i consider that for their quality&resolution, .mo files are just wasting space (they are at least twice bigger than they should really be). A .rm file at 170kbit looks on my computer as good as .mo file at 310kbit, so .mo files are not better, but in fact worse than .rm. The only thing .rm lacks is a full-screen player. And, by the way: no fast-forward in .mo player :( :(

So if you want to amaze your friends with an exceptional quality of the video, use a .mo file in full-screen, 'cause it sure looks impressive. But if you plan to watch 2-hour movies and maybe store a few mp3s on your phone, be prepared for the 256MB card (and I still doubt about the mp3s :) )
