I've got all my contacts stored on the phone and when people call me their name and pic displays.
But when i receive a text or MMS from someone it just shows their number, not their name e.g +44xxxxxxxx rather than 'Dad'
Anyone got any ideas why? :-?

May Be you saved the number without the Prefix , try going to the message and press add to contacts, then try again.

not sure it works, from the msg wif no, make a new contact from there, put name as orig in ur contacts, so it overwrites the orig.

i've tried both your ideas, i've even deleted my old contact and created an entirely new one from the number from the inbox but it still doesn't show the name instead of the number.
when i send text messages the sent items shows the names however, just not the inbox.
do u think this is a problem with the OS? how do i check my firmware version and update it?

I`ve just edited the number of my PAYG account (replacing the 0 with +44) in my contacts then resent a text message and it showed up as my name rather than just the number.
The second message showed my name but the message I sent before I edited the number still shows up as the number and not the name.
My method:
1. Sent text no. 1 = just number shown.
2. Edited phone number = still only number shown for text no. 1.
3. Sent text no. 2 = still only number shown for text no. 1, but for text no. 2 it shows my name.
If you didn`t do it exactly that way then give it a try, you`ve nothing to lose.

I took your advice and added myself to my contacts with the +44 prefix, and texted myself, and 'Me' appeared instead of the number! i had to add +44 to all my contacts, but it appears to be working now, thanks a lot!
