View Full Version : O2 doesnt work in DCT3 phones??
I unlocked three old phones my dad had lying around, 2 x 5110 and 1 x 6150 cos my O2 3310 is fecked (my staffie bull terrier chewed the fuckin thing and destroyed it) - my question is this:
The phones ALL work with Virgin, one2one and Voda but not my own O2 sim which still works in my wife's phone so I know its ok! ARRRRRRRRRRGH!
Are DCT3 handsets not compatible with O2? They don't complain about the sim but I get no network coverage and no signal. The phones were originally one2one (the 6150 was Orange)
:-?

The problem is todo with the hardware on the phones!
Back in the day phones either worked on the 900 gsm band or the 1800 gsm band, these days most phones are dual band or tri band
You will also notice that orange sims won't get a signal in the phones either this is because Orange and O2 both work on the 900 gsm band rather than the 1800
The phones aren't faulty they just won't work with the band you are trying to access

The 6150 should work as it was nokias first dualband phone.
also O2 and Vodafone work on 900Mhx and T-Mobile and Ornage work on 1800Mhz

It will say "BT Cellnet" cause thats what O2 used to be called - and as shown, 900 and 1800 dual band phones should work with both Voda and Orange AND t-mobile (one2one) - and they do but not O2!!!!
Whats the Hampden Roar? Can anybody shed some light on this subject?
All so far - Thanx for yer comments,
Scott.

BTW the 6150 is an Orange badged phone. So it should work with O2 but doesnt get any network coverage when an O2 sim is fitted....works with Orange, One2One and Voda........

I've read reports that O2/BT Cellnet used 1800MHz cells in some areas to complement their 900MHz coverage. Since most phones were dual-band by that time, few people noticed this.
Perhaps you're in a 900MHz coverage hole, and your 900MHz-only phone is indicating that.
As for the 6150, are you sure it's a 6150 and not one of the (very rare) 6130's Orange used to sell? The Nokia 6130 looks just like the 6150 but it's a 1800MHz-only version of the 900MHz 6110.

Hi Guys,
Thanxs for the comments.
The phone is badged 6150e - and I thought it would do both bands. I am in Central Scotland so should get all bands LOL.
Just seems strange that the O2 sim doesnt work and ALL others do.....
Scott.

Its more likely that he hasn't used the sim for a while and o2 have decided to disconnect him from their service, as they did with me recently.
