there is a way to turn off the camera sound on e700 - if you don't have the option on your menus.

Caution! it is advised to write the original settings down during steps 5,6,7.
also, dont't mess with any other settings, or you may mess up the phone

1.type in the test menu code -----> *#8999*8378#
2. when the menu appears go to h/w test
3. goto audio settings
4. goto melody gain
5. a number will appear, clear it and type in 0
6. press save, clear this next number and put in 0
7. press save, clear this next number and put in 0
8. press save twice (should be back on menu)
9. go to the standby screen
10. turn the volume down using the side key to level 1,2 or 3
11. hey presto no camera sound, go on, try it
12. and.. if you want the camera sound back on, just turn the volume back up to level 4 or 5

Tried this. All I get is 'Not Allowed'. I don't get to any menu or anything else. I have tried it with and without sim card, with vodaphone, orange and t-mobile sim cards and it do'nt work with any of them.

Don't do as told above (as that would mess up the volume of the ringing).

Do like this instead:

1. Type: *#8999*8378#
2. Enter: H/W test -> Audio Settings -> Melody Gain
3. Replace the number 6 with a 0. Press save, now 12 will pop up, let it be and press save. To like this with the following 18, 24 and 31. Then you're back.
4. Now press the volume down key at the side of the phone as low as possible.
5. DONE! (if you want the photo-sound back, just press the volume up key a couple of times).

Here's the post where it was found: http://mobile-review.com/forum2/showthread.php?threadid=6144

This is how it should be done, step-by-step. (It only affects the key pad volume, and not the ringer volume)

1. type in the test menu code -> *#8999#8378#
2. when the menu appears go to h/w test
3. goto audio settings
4. goto melody gain
5. the number 6 will appear, press clear to delete this entry, and enter 0
6. the number 12 will appear, press save
7. the number 24 will appear, press save
8. the number 32 will appear, press save, you will now return to the previous menu.
9. Press the end (power) key, and you will return to the standby menu.
10. Slide the volume key down to zero vol for key sounds.
11.The camera shutter should now be SILENT when you take a picture.
12.The camera shutter can be switched back on by simply increasing the key volume, by sliding the volume key up.

I have tested this method on my E700, and I have seen no side effects, nor any other volume issues.

Good luck with silent picture taking.

Finally got this to work using the correct code. Make sure you use *#8999*8378# and NOT *#8999#8378# (as appears twice in this thread).

When you use the correct code it works like a charm.
