N6600: PLEASE list any & all known errors & bugs

Moderators, please take note.

If everyone who owns a Nokia 6600 would please write down:

1. any and all errors messages they may have found.
2. any and all bugs they may have stumbled onto
3. and if they can remember what they were doing to get that message or bug.

Hopefully we can get an useful firmware upgrade that sorts them out.

For those who have solutions to specific errors and bugs, please reply to that SPECIFIC post.

the problem that i have at the moment is that cell info doesn't change on my phone. It stayin on cell only.i format the phone and the cell will change but there must be an application that is stopping it from changing... running firmware V3.42.1

1. my phone always restart

3. wav files should be stored first to MMC before it can play the sound (intermittent)
4. cannot send midi file only stored in phone memory
5. during start up it only plays half the nokia tune (during the hand shaking)
6. installing too much games and apps corrupt some of the system files

But all you need to do is hard format the phone some of this will be fixed if you encounter this errors.

my problems with the 6600 are:

1. A bit slow, specially when loading the log, camera and video recorder and just browsing through the menu, its not as responsive as the 7650
2. Can't attach .mid's to MMS's (i know its part of the DRM, but how come all other phones can do it, ie. SE's and the GX20)
3. Random reboot
4. App.closed thing
5. The start up tone thing

But the first 2 is what annoys me the most

I have just found out at least one in every four 6600 phones has a burnt pixel, upsetting due to the fact you dish out 400 euros to buy one and it isn't perfect.

Luckily i have a mild flicker that isn't as annoying however, i haver noticed and more with the newer versions (more so with the rose cover) - that when using video recorder there is a very upsetting flicker!!

Recently I enabled the delivery Note, stating whether or not a sms was received or not and I have noticed that some times instead of just giving me a beep and a short message stating that it has in fact been delivered, a phantom message will sound. As in, I will here my "you have received a new SMS sound" but nothing will be there. Has anyone else had this problem??

I hate this phone....


1. Multiple messages in the drafts box that can't be deleted!
2. Cannot send emails through pop3 without sending two in order to push the first one through. This still isn't gauranteed.
3. No tone or vibration when any message (SMS, MMS etc) is received (tried everything here!!!)

This phone is giving me the sh*ts!!!!

Anyone else with any of these issues?

I was going to buy one of these phones, but until they start issuing a few fixes (new firmware) then it ain't worth it!!!

I have read somewere in this forum about the apps being slow and there being a setting to change that. I might be wrong

yesterday I've encountered a strange problem, When the fone starts up and the desktop is loaded, it shuts down. BUT when i press the menu key it goes to menu and all is okay.

whenever i answer my call, it gets disconnected as though i reject the call. v super super duper duper annoying :-x esp when someone with a private no. call u and u will NEVER know who calls u...
a few of my friends gets the same problem in 1 out of 5 calls.

I've had my phone ( 3660 ) turn itself off before. Ony explanation at the time was maybe the phone got a jolt that disconnected the battery for a split second.

i used to have a very annoying problem, where after turning the fone off then on again, i'd get all the previous delivery reports. which really pisses you off if you've sent over 100 message since the last time you turned the phone off and on.
it fixed itself after i bought a new MMC.
i also get the half tune thing on the opening vid with the hands.
cant get my email to work.
and it has a few clashes and upsets with new software or games, but i usually put that down to the software itself.
all in all tho, i wouldnt swap this phone for the world. i LOVE it! :D

yea i haf 1 too.. at the top of the screen... but i think its coz i used the application "torch" for qt a while and the pixel "burnt" ?????????

a lot of the bugs stated here don't really seem to be model wide. i haven't experienced a lot of them. some may even be service-related. and a lot seem to be user-related. take mp3ian for example. he is clearly a moron. the 6600 is an excellent phone that i wouldn't trade for the world. here are a few real bugs:

- in the message screen, it will ALWAYS display contact names as LAST, First.
- is slower with the log set to 30 days ( as opposed to 10 or 1 ).
- beep twice tone is the same as beep.

- Random Restart: sometimes it restarts by itself
- PC/Fone Bluetooth: when I'm transferring huge files via Epocware PC File Manager and the transfer fails, the phone sorta "locks up". The light won't come back on and I can't access the Menu. I actually have to take out the battery (which I hate doing, because my back cover is loose) and put it back in and power on.
- Startup Sound: Cut off if phone doesn't wait 15 secs on entering PIN Code. I bypassed this problem by forcing the phone to ask PIN and Lock Code at every startup
- Themes: If you use the default themes that came with the phone, the OS is pretty reactive when you browse through the system. If you have a personalized theme active (as in, the theme was made, downloaded and installed) it takes the phone about 4 secs to exit a folder and get back to the main menu. Pisses me off. I have the 7610 Black theme (looks sexy, made by Mango Themes (www.mangothemes.com)) and I don't like any of the default themes ...

Non-Error Related:
- Joystick: loose and dodgy. Need a fix soon. And when I do, I'm going to get a firmware upgrade, the latest at that time
- Back Cover: Need new one. Very loose now, can move about 2mm up and down

RAR just had my 1st big error yesterday:

was sending a peferctly innocent text message. came to look at phone 20mins later and it hadnt sent. so tried to delete from outbox, which caused the phone to switch off.... tried to switch back on and 1st three times it got as far as the handshake thing and switched back off.

shit, yeah i just go that too. lost all my messages. luckly i backed them up 3 days earlier, but still lost about a hundred forever.
it happened when i was trying to send a message. got to the outbox, but then wouldnt send. checked my credit, all good there. reception; fine. so tried to send again and then it just cut out. when i finally managed to get it back on *poof* all messages gone.

I purchased my 6600 from Emirates and it worked fine with a local sim card during that week. When I returned to Europe though, that was not the case.

Before leaving the airport I switched on the phone and it gave me a 'general system error' with a loud beeping sound. Then a blue screen started flashing with the following message:

The phone would just hang and I had to pull out the battery for it to switch off. Then with time, I observed that if I switch it on it doesn't necessarily go to the falshing blue screen immediately after. But eventually it does and the interesting part is that a new message would sometimes be displayed such as the one below:

But after a couple of days of experimenting, I recognized that if I didn't pull the battery out; after a while the phone restarts automatically (and yes I also encountered the same problem with the sound during the handshake, it is incomplete). But still, it will continue to switch to that haunting flashing blue screen. SO right now the phone is in some deep dark closet, because it is absolutely useless.

Just for the record, the phone is not locked to the Emirates network and I did try using another non-European sim card that is at the moment, disconnected and I got the same result. After all this I didn't have a real chance to discover any other possible software errors. But for the record my version is 3.38.3 and I hope that may be the reason. But I am not ready to experiment till I am sure.

I apologize for the lenghty message but I wanted to make all facts clear.

You can't send files bigger then your free space on the phones memory, it's similar to windows in a sense, when you d/l somewhere other then c: then the initial file gets d/l in c:'s temp dirs then gets transferred to where ever you saved it but in the phone it saves it in c: then you have to move it, so you have to get a mmc reader and transfer files 4~6+ like that.

I wouldn't have a clue because my new 6600 says it's out of memory when i sent a 10 meg file, I have enough room on the MMC card, and files sent to phone via irda/bluetooth gets stored in the inbox which is on the phone memory.

The 6600 also plays the default nokia tune when a private call rings in even though i have a different ring tone assigned to both lines 1 and 2, my 7650 also did this randomly, is this a bug?

not sure if this is a bug or not, but it is damn annoying, when you lock your keypad to get it off you have to press a key then press unlock and *, it is really annoying, i can no longer use my phone in my sleep as i dont know if keypad active :-?

dunno if this is true or not, but dont these phones restart when they run out of resources??? all series 60 phones do it as far as i know, all you reportin that your 6600 does it, then that one guy that said his 3660 does it, and my 3650 does it, dunno about the 7650 tho??? but it would make sence tho??

i think this is because of the screensaver. the first keypress would deactivate the screensaver and only then you can unlock.

i have flashed my 6600 with the latest firmware and now when i switch it on it says app closed error also there is no battery display on the screen... i leave the fone off then it works after a while..

I had that problem too, it only happened when I moved Messaging to the Memory Card. The other problem I got with this was that whenever I'd get a delivery report it would be the message received tone. Moving the messaging menu back on to the phones memorey sorted it out.

its not a 6600 problem althogh it maybe aswell when charging my n-gage its quite difficult to turn on (from off) it goes on then of about 3 times before it stays on :(

The Symbian OS has a memory "garbage" collector which sometimes try to release all unused resources to free up the memory. If a third party program have not been written correctly (new or newlc method was not implemented or forget to put the resource to the CleanupStack) the OS cant release resources. The phone (6600) has 10Mb operative memory, if the available free memory under critical size, phone has just one chance, Reboot.

If you use thirdparty softwares or servers!!!(runs on background) check your free memory recently (ex: by Switcher)

The phone has 6MB flash memory, the registry files of OS take up aprox. 7-800kb (c:/system/data; mail; libs; recogs; sharedata; skins etc) check your c:/system/skins directory. c:/nokia directory contains nokia add-on softwares and registries. Check your c:/nokia/sounds; videos; images directories!!

All messages and camera images stored in internal memory by default. The background image of default skin it stored in c:/system/data/backgroundimage.mbm (all jpg, gif, bmp etc files will be converted to mbm format) aprox 70-100KB.

If you use thirdparty skins in internal memory! all wallpapper change will make a file to c:/system/skins/[skin-uid]/CustomBgImgFav/Wallpapper.mbm and c:/system/skins/[skin-uid]/CustomBgImgIdle/Wallpapper.mbm

Some program writes the registry and licence files to c:/system/data

You can use 4-4,8 MB of internal memory.

A bug I've come across: it won't let you delete large messages (in this case, the message was the SIS file for Opera, sent via infrared - ~790kb) and states that the file is in use. To delete, I had to locate the SIS file and delete it using the PC File Manager app and an infrared link.

This is unforgivable, and I can't see Nokia improving things, since this phone is more buggy than the 7650, not less. I can't imagine the next model being much better.

hi, i guess no one is hving this problem i hv nokia 6600 v4.09. the problem is that my log shows the log time incorrect in the sense that if i hv called sum1 at 8 the log shows the time to be 7.30. this is the case with all the missed calls i hv received, the incoming calls, and the SMSes i hv sent and even the delivery reports.the time shown in the log is half an hour early, this quite a nasty problem!!!!!!!

Hi mujahid, kindly change ur gmt to +6.
im also from india, there;s this bug that creates this problem.
changing to +6 makes no diff to ur phone or ur location, just that u will need to reset ur time again

when u get msg sound instead of delivery reports bip and no flash msg appears just restart ur phone and it will back to normal
after restart u get all delivery reports (which had bad sound) again with proper bip sound and flash msg

when u have lots of apps working in background (whole RAM used) then phone has not enough memory to play ringtone u assigned and it plays default nokia tune

my phone it's not reading the sim card phone memory
and it's not receiving any sms, it's say it's memory is full and that i need to delete some itens first
i think that because of this my phone is consuming the batery twice as faster (usaly it would get 2 or 3 days, now it's during only 1 day or less)
has anyone see this problem? any solution like hard reset will fix this?
