Hey.. just been having problems, seen it twice now,
i'd take a picture on my phone, and i want to send it to someone with an older nokia that has infrared.. not sure the model, but they can have pictures but dont have a camera...
anyway we both turn on infra red, it connects, trys to send for a sec and then tries to connect again (and doesnt)
anyone know about this?

G'day mate,
Series 40 phones do not have the capability of sending or receiving data from infrared. Series 60 phones can between each other eg 3650 to 7650 or 7650 to 6600 etc
I tried sending an image from a 6600 to a 7250. Doesn't work. I believe its a feature of the Symbian Operating System only on Series 60 phones.

Their infrared are for wireless connections:
- Infrared connection between phone and PC/laptop
- Easy transfer of business cards
- Easy transfer of calendar notes
- Easy transfer of To-do notes
The Series 40 infrared doesnt even support 2-player infrared games anymore. I remember the 8210 or 8310 could ...
Only the Symbian Infrared are the most useful and fulfilling feature of the Series 60 phone range
{Smithdogg, are you on Vodafone or Telstra or Optus? Prepaid or on plan?}

I read somewhere on the forums that Nokia put some sort of a lock on the S40 phones so you can send and recieve to and from a S60.

That must mean either one of these options:
NB: I presume you know how to place a phone's infrared port against the laptops ... :-P
1. Your laptop's infrared is disabled in the BIOS settings
2. Your laptop's infrared is damage or non-operational
3. Your phone's infrared is damaged or non-operational
4. Your laptop's infrared's settings does not allow local infrared devices to be seen
Personally, I think its the phone's problem. But what I do know for certain, is that Series 40 phones cannot send or receive images etc through infrared from a Series 60 phone. Confirmed. Done. Stamped. BANG!

uhhh my laptop's infrared is perfectly fine.. hence why my 6600 works fine with it and why i said my friend's phone wouldnt

It would be nice if you can get some kind if a hack patch or firmware to xfer photo's from a s40, seems pretty silly that you can't do it.
