How cool would 1 gig be? Damn, I could fit all my fav mp3s in there lol. 256 is minimum, 512 is recommended but 1025 is EXTREME! :lol:
Yes 1 Gb = 1024 Mb and 1 Mb = 1024 b etc etc

where can u get 512's?? i thort most woz 128?
nk6600
21-01-2004, 03:17 AM
128 is the most? I have two 256mb mmc cards that work fine (the 2nd is my Kingmax one, and I dont trust it anymore ...)!
512 is rarely seen in Australia, so I cant get my hands on it. But no need to! Once the Pretec 1024mb one comes out ... my phone has a gig to play around with ... :lol:
256 seems to be the most economical. it is less than double the price of a 128mb card. and 512 mb cards are more than double of a 256 mb card. i bet the 1024mb card is going to be a whole lot more expensive. considering it is just coming out.

What you said is correct.
However, things change when you buy one off an auction like Ebay ...
Australia only has 256mb mmc card ... and I bought it at an incredible low price!
True, seeing that Pretec is the first and only producer of 1024 mb mmc cards ... its going to cost a lot ... until the 2048 mb mmc comes and the 1024 drops in price. But will there be a 2048 mb? Only time will tell :-P

@Hunzol
Oh. 1GB MultiMedia Cards are old? Then wtf don't I see them down under? Or are you talking about the rich and powerful American/European nations?

Thanks tzeonn. I understand now, but I realized that Pretec only released information about their 1GB MMC Card only in Jan 2004. WHich is this month!
And plus, the most I have heard is 512Mb. Which I haven't seen in Australia either! I bought my 256mb MMC off Ebay AU. That's why :D
Apologies to Hunzol.

The no-brand one. It's cheaper by AUD$3.50 and is more stable than Kingmax. From my experiences of course ...
Btw, the supposedly called "no-brand" MMC Card i have actually has a brand ... but it was from Singapore then sold on Ebay AU by a Sydney Computer Store ...

1gb istn't 1024mb at an mmc,
the say that it is so but they meen 1.000.000.000b
so not even 1000mb

To clarify:
1024 Bytes = 1 Kb
1024Kb = 1mb
so by means of doing some mathy stuff,
1mb = 1048576 Bytes
1Mb (by manufactures logic)
is equal to
1.048576 actual
So the "1Gb" (1024 Mb by manufacturer's logic) Memory card that you bought is actually:
"1024MB" / 1.048576
which gives you a grand total of
976.5625 Mb.
The bigger the memory, the more you will loose. I lost 10 Gigs of my computer's hard drive.

Simple terms: 1Gb MMC Card is larger than 512Mb MMC Card ... and is what everyone needs ... as long as the price stays low :D
