erm... i feel the firmware for 3650 might b more stable, not much diff in those 2 anyway (in fact, i dun see any diff).

Nokia says 3660 firmware is non-compatible with 3650 and vice versa.

Reviews at other sites as well as Nokia admit that 3660 firmware is almost completely stable and has all the bug fixes that were encountered in 3650.

I myself am using a 3660 and going by the amount of 3rd party appz I try out on it, since the day of purchase on the 23rd of this month, i've only had one crash so far , which was rectified by a "battery-pullout - hard -boot "

I personally feel it's true that 3650 and 3660 firmwares are non - interchangeable since the 3660 has more colors n therefore more bits assigned per pixel of the screen to generate those colors .

The 3650 would simply be flummoxed when encountering data it is not meant to handle.It can only handle 12 bits of color information per pixel of screen.
Therefore it's memory requirement being...176 x 208 x 12 = 439296 bits = 54912 bytes = 53.7 Kb

On the other hand the 3660 now needs ... 176 x 208 x 16 = 585728 bits= 73216 bytes = 71.5 Kb

You can well imagine a system designed to handle only 53.7 Kb of data for refreshing it's screen.... per screenful , refreshed at a high refresh rate of not less than 30fps ,shall be unable to cope with a firmware that thrusts
almost 18Kb more of data,per screenful, at every single refresh.....which is junk to the screen cuz it cannot decipher it anyway.

I got a 3660 not 10 days ago..
It's reasonable fast and trust me i'm one user who gets REAL frustrated with phones that lag, which is perhaps why I hate SE phones though i admit their features/looks are better than Nokias in MY personal opinion.

Anyway I cannot compare speeds cuz I have never used a 3650.
But I have had a slew of fones in the past...

Color phones are usually slow cuz they render colors,shades etc which other fones do not have to worry about.

Now amongst color fones..... the ones that use more colors , in theory, shud b slower.....if both the OS and hardware (RAM , Processor etc.) remain the same (which is pretty much so between the 3650 and 3660 )

So logic says that 3660 ought to b slower.
THough since i'm personally using it, trust me, it's not slow enuff to frustrate you....just a nominal lag , shorter than the kind that flares up my temper.

PS: the screen is breathtakingly sharp,colors vivid and images crystal clear...

MOREOVER, The keys , for once, are so well thought of, I LOVE THEM!
I tried a 6600 as well and it's keys get in the way, not at all ergonomically designed. Practicality was not paid heed to,...design was.

But the 3660 , KEYPAD ROCKS!
Try it yourself and u shall know what I mean, the 3D positiong along with the increased surface area and raised corners actually makes the keys very very finger friendly.
Easy to press, right tactile feel, SMS is fast,chances of hittin the wrong key r less than those in a 6600 too.

My sister just bought 3660 its seems not so many different with3650
than i thougt its slower than 3650
just keypad, screen view finder more lightning but i think 3650 more soft
my eyes its tired see the 3660 screen. realone ver 3.10, FW v.4.57
ram and etc nothing change. we just buy a keypad and screen maybe?
isn't it ?but keep going man maybe nokia will fixed this up maybe for ram and flash more high than now? :D

Here's what Nokia lists on the Partners website:

Newest software 04/23/04

3650: DP 3.0 - V4.13
3660: DP 1.0 - V4.57
3600: DP 3.0 - V2.01
3620: DP 2.0 - V3.14

The 3650 and 3660 share the same flash package.
The 3600 and 3620 share the same package also.

Phoenix (Nokia's service software) detects what kind of phone is connected, and loads in the appropriate software.

where do you go to get a firmware upgrade? a nokia centre or somethin? and also, do you loose your apps, messages, ect when you do it?

yup, at nokia care ctrs. ur fone mem will b formatted, and restored to orig factory settings when u flash it, so rem to back it up, or move them to mmc or sth. (flashing doesnt affect mmc)

is it recomended that one does update the firmware? and how do you know when... better yet, why?

well, firmwarez will make ur fone more stable, fix previous version bugs, etc.

im not really sure where u can check out wat each version of firmware does, but kind members here haf posted sometimes, on wat versions are out, like the 4.03 version for 6600.
