View Full Version : Problems programming Prodigy Pic

I have built the Prodigy clone with the 40 pin PCB layout made by Forhike

I also built the JDM programmer a long time ago for the cheap dct4 flasher
The only problem is that I cannot seem to get IC-Prog to program the PIC
The JDM programmer will program the old PIC 16F??? still so that still works
and I have a couple of spare 18F452s I have tried but still with no goal!

The ponyprog I built worked fine and so have already programed the eeprom

any help is much appreciated,
Danny

Hi. Add 10K Resistor between RB5 and ground! Also check if Vcc is between 4.5 and 5.5V and Vpp near 12V. Hope it helps...

I tried the 10k resistor but that didn't do anything

The Vpp is at 13.5v and Vcc is at 5.12v so nothing abnormal

I have also tried programming the PIC with its own power which is 3.3v with no luck!

Any other suggestions??

Sorted!!

I changed the delay index which didn't help at first
But then I reopened IC prog tried to program 1122 in the first line and it programmed ok

I then opened up the hex file clicked program and voila sorted!

cheers for the help,
Danny

danwood76: which size you resize Forhikes PCB layout?

danwood76
03-02-2004, 10:41 AM
I didn't
I redrew his on quickroute as I couldn't get the size right
I have the file on .pcb format
Although its not complete as it doesn't have the shutdown regulator on it yet

I am building that in the next couple of days.

You should ask forhike himself about this

It would be great if you could post your final PCB layout

When I finish it I will post it,

Still trying to get my LM317 to do the whole shutdown thing though,
I think I need a higher gain transistor

Will try a BC109 with it on thursday

I Used a 2N2222 for it when i first built it!

danwood76

And that works ok?

I have a wide range of transistors at college so I will try to find the 2N2222

I have 3.75 volts coming out of the regulator but I cannot boot up my phone from the power??? now I am confused!

Could it be that my cable is too long?

Anyway I will get back to playing with it!! :-P

cheers,
Danny

Dann...the cable size is not a problem...I havent seen the schematic U are talk bout but I can surely tell U that LM 317 is low voltage stabilizer with 1A output current..........bout PIC programing I personaly prefer pony prog..works good for me../U can find more here: www.lancos.com/

My JDM programmer and Pony Prog both work fine now the problem is sorted

I am going to get a new LM317
I was trying a second hand one so hopefully the brand new one will work ;)

Cheers serge,
Danny

Hi! For programming PIC18F452 you need only to use RB6,RB6,Vpp,Vcc and Vss!

Yes, this worked perfecty!

I used a simple JDM programmer
Took quite a few attempts on programming it though

You can find the schematics for this on Forhikes FTP:

@ Xaris

What voltage have you got going into your LM317?

I am using USB supply 5.2v do you think that will give enough power??

This is working 100% with my P4 WinXP Prof. PC.
Sometimes gives errors on P2 350MHz (Win98)

I've used a nokia charger to give power to LM317

Sorted that now

I am now using a DC in off of my scanner
Works 50% now

I am getting a secondary boot loader error??
Is this to do with the FIA files?

Anyway I will change the hex for the stuff in the other thread and see if that helps

Yes. Install fia update 3.oo or 3.05. That'll do.

good luck
