Hey!
I just bought a Nokia 8890 from a guy on Ebay and shock horror, my Ebay purchase has a problem. Whenever I try to do certain features, like check my Inbox or Outbox in text messages the screen goes off. The blue light in the background is still lit but i can see nothing! This is so frustrating to me, and I am hoping there is something simple I can do to solve this problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Any info would be much appreciated!

As far as I know... Fading screens are common in a few 8xxx series phones... It means that it needs a new elastomer which is the rubber contact between the screen and the PCB... They are very cheap... GOOD LUCK :D

has there been other threads that talk about this problem? I have a 6200 but have this same issue. I'm new so try not to flame me :p
I recently recovered my phone after 6 long weeks of waiting for someone to send it in the mail.
When I go to Messages\Text Messages\Inbox all of the lights on the phone turn off, including the display, then it shows me the power bar, shows me the desktop, loads the text on the screen and takes about 5-15 seconds to reload the SIM Card before it acts "normal" again. Everytime I access the inbox it does this.
It was shipped rather poorly.
My hypothesis is that the person that sent me back my phone had their SIM card in it and was using it. Since these two Nokia's were purchased off of Ebay and would have arrived for use under similar circumstances, I am beginning to think I am correct. Booting the nokia w/o a SIM Card in may fix it, but I want to establish whether or not the person before me did this with my phone. is there a way to tell?
I _really_ do not believe this is a hardware problem. If it were, I'd have problems in other areas of my phones display and I do not. Its clear as a bell and works fine except when dealing with the text messaging. The person that had the phone is an avid text messenger.

Sounds like a software problem.
Can you get into the inbox of your sim in other phones?
