i just bought a BLC-2 batt (700mAh  ). my little problem is that it never shows the temperature correctly. it stays on 25'C. is there anything wrong with the battery? the phone works fine. other batteries show the temperature ok.

Is your battery a non-original? I.E not nokia? i know that nearly all non original batteries dont have the necessary hardware for reporting the temperature back to the phone.
I bought an 800mA battery for my 8210 ages ago, when i opened it up there was none of the assosciated monitoring hardware, when i checked netmon it stayed at a constant 23 degrees, they'd squeezed extra capacity into the battery by omiting the thermostat and replaced it with a resistor! this causes problems cos most charging is done via a combination of measured current input and temperature, the phone notices when there is a temperature rise in the battery and cuts off charging. a new battery wont get as warm as an old one.

That should explain the exploding batteries that we've been reading about in the newspapers.

it's original. and the capacity is too low to be squeezed. it would be probably squeezed if it were 1000mAh.
i've had the same problem with another battery. my mom bought the same battery a year ago and one day i noticed that it has the same problem: stays at 25 degrees (she doesn't care though, 'cause she doesn't know a thing about that stuff).
(a small difference: mine goes sometimes to 26)

stupid question time...
Does the temperature of the battery actually rise? (i.e to the touch) if your using the normal ACP-7X charger then i cant imagine it would rise that much, if at all... it only charges at 300mA which wont cause a significant difference. if you use the ACP12X on something like and aged 3310 battery then it does rise but only to about 31 degrees but still feels hot to the touch.
you may just have a good battery with little internal resistance.

temperature rises only when Ni-MH batteries are charged.
@Nanda
btw, what type of phone exploded?

There have been several reports from all over the world. Here are some:
Nokia investigates exploding phones: http://msnbc-cnet.com.com/2100-1039_3-5088434.html?part=msnbc-cnet&tag=alert&form=feed&subj=cnetnews
Nokia blames aftermarket batteries for phone explosions:

Exploding phones raise concerns: http://www.forbes.com/personaltech/2004/02/18/cx_ah_0218tentech.html
This one is about a girl in Norway whose 3310 exploded: http://www.dagbladet.no/dinside/2003/07/24/374311.html
The list goes on and on and on. No known cases in Brasil though.
It appears that most of them were related to counterfeit batteries that had been sold as original ones. You can tell, though, that a US$30 battery can't possibly cost US$5 like it usually does on eBay unless there's something wrong with it!
But this whole explosion thing seems to have somewhat dented Nokia's image. Kyocera is also affected.

how can they be sold as original? original batteries are identified by their Nokia® logo. non-original ones have different companies' logos.
the battery below is original nokia BLC-1 (used in 3410, but works in other 3xxx models)

what is the red line sticker, under which there are 2 holes, found in Li-Ion batteries and not in other ones?

the red line bleeds outwards when the battery gets wet, its what nokia use as an indicator of the phone being soaked or kept in a humid atmosphere. you'll also find them in the back of other phones like siemens, motorolla and mitsubishi.
dave.
p.s, all nokia originals have these, not just li-ion, its either peeled off the others or the battery you have is fake!

no! the first time u buy a 3310 has a Ni-MH inside. it doesn't have anything like that.

Not really... I've seen fake batteries with Nokia logos, even on their plastic casing!
Two good visual indications that the battery may be a fake: when the text printed on them is blurred or greyish instead of black and clearly printed, and sometimes the carton without a Nokia hologram or a seal that isn't really a hologram but rather a silver sticker with "Nokia" on it.
I've seen both.

when in turkey i saw some really really good copies, looked just like original nokia batts, even down to the font and print. but when you looked closely the brand was AIKON (for the less astute, thats NOKIA prited backwards)
never bought one, but they looked good.

aaahh!
i just noticed that you're right! the font on BLC-2 battery is a bit different and the color is gray.
i think i bought a non-original batt... i bought it for €10 from a chinese shop (it's not really chinese; :-P they speak greek in there) its name was "pekino"

and something more. i think it's secondhand, because it doesn't last for longer than 2,5 days.
