if the 9290 has a symbian operating system like nokia says, how come its not listed. and no one talks about it? i am considering one, anyone got any pros and cons? i saw that it has a real player and plays wav files for ringing tones. and it looks pretty sleek. Anyone know how good it works on the internet? maybe like the sidekick, which i think browses pretty quick.. Is it worth $250 no tax? I am willing to trade a samsung E105 and some cash, if anyones got one...email me

9xxx (9000, 9110, 9110i, 9210) (1 Viewing)
All about Nokia 9000, 9110, 9190, 9210, 9290 and the rest of 9xxx series
There is a forum entirely for these phones. That is why nobody talks about it here.

Yeah I know, but it's a lot different to the 6600/3650/N-Gage.

In fact me and my gf both have 9290....until I lost mine. The 9290 is a great phone but has lots of bugs....I have to reboot it quite often when I had it. There's not a lot of games and apps for it...not cracked ones anyway :) hehehe.
When people look at my 3650 they say...man that's a cool phone you can do a lot with it. When they look at the 9290 they say...man that is a big ugly phone you got there...and then I open it up and they say...WOW...that is a cool small computer you got there. :)
The built in applications are good though...it's more for the working folks than recreational. The built in apps for messaging, email, word, spreadsheet, and presentation works better than any of the s60 phones. I love the keyboard, you can work much faster with it. It is symbian OS. The built in web browser works ok. With the web browser you can actually surf the web, it has a pretty big screen.

i have seen lots of apps on yahoo for it but nothing FUN, mostly business related. I am now looking at 7650s on ebay, i have the 3650 but just looking for something new to play with. I love the ngage, but NO CAM, i love the 3650 but NO RADIO and not loud enough, so i really need the 7700! lol but damn they are a RIP!! Is 200 usd a good price for the 7650???

7650 is OK, but it's quite big and has a severe lack of memory. You should try a 3660 or a 6600 in my opinion.
Bot lovely phones.

A huge disadvantage of the 9290 is that the 9290 does not support GPRS, it only does CSD. If you don't know what CSD is basically its like comparing cable (GPRS) against dial up (CSD) as far as speed. Another thing is that most applications created for it are business related thus barely any games or multimedia apps like movie players and such. Also the applications are very few since most developers concentrate on Symbian Series 60 at the moment being the most popular version of Symbian out there right now. Also no bluetooth.
