I got an unlocked 6600 from eBay but it's an Orange one unlocked. How can I get it back to the sim free versions? Is it merely a theme that Orange have installed or does it go deeper than that

Cheers
-Tom

I reset the phone to factory, seems to have removed most stuff, but things like the orange theme, screensaver, favourites etc have stayed put :(

How do I flash it?

to the shop bro. u need special flashing equipment to flash fones, and if u wanna get those equipment, they costs quite a bit, flashing at nokia care is free if ur fone is under warr.

yeah, about 80 bucks for the adjusted battery and then you still need the flash cable and the dongle so you'll pay more then 100$/€ and you only need to use it once or twice..

Why do you need to flash it, i've flashed to the 3.49.1 at my friends shop and he flashed with the orange soft. Apart from the theme, screensaver and settings (GPRS, MMS) there is nothing more, so it's no use to waste 80 bucks or pounds or euro to just flash yer phone. So stay with it, use the normal themes, screensavers and everything will be ok

Well I'm a perfectionist so I'd prefer it wiped! Cos now everytime I reset it wipes all my O2 GPRS settings and loads up the orange ones. I have software 3.49.2, must be pretty new!

is their a secret service menu for 6600 like for se phones where theirs a proper format internal memory option? also how do you check the f/w version on 6600?

If you like to "deep format" the 6600, just power off the phone, hold your fingers on the green "answer" button, the "*" button and the "3" button all at the same time. Now boot your phone (can get pretty tricky with holding all those buttons..) and keep holding the buttons until a format screen comes up and whatever you do.. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FORMATTING so check if your battery is well charged.
G/L!

Will that get rid of all my Orange stuff? Or will it still reinstall itself on startup?

tts because its in the firmware, u need to flash it.

and u can press *#0000# to find out ur firmware version.

and oh, the pressing 3 buttons trick works the exact same way as *#7370#, onli diff is u can bypass the password (i tink, aint tried tt method), but i noe for sure both does the same thing.
