Test Mode

Hello to all:

Just two quick questions...

When a phone is put into test mode via cable and software, what is the proper way to get out of test mode? It doesn't seem to power down via the power button. Will the phone be harmed if the battery is simply removed?

And No. 2:

Should the sim card be removed for flashing / unlocking with cable and software?
