The Nokiafree discussion forum is genious. If one was to create a forum, what would be a good to use?

Members, ull need members and alot of them too
As u can see this forum doesn't even support HTML codes (still dun get why) and it's still populiar as can be.
Other thing ull need to be on top if they google, expirienced people, nice mods, lotsa things like Avatars and sigs

Yeah, an active forum is the key. Just remember that people generally will not want to go to a forum that is inactive, also, you should offer people something different, don't just try and make a replica of a site because it just won't work. I remember back when a friend and I made a forum, we got over 700 members in the first night, with just some simple advertising on websites.

HTML is supported by this forum and many others, but it is turned off, as people can abuse it. Using HTML, you can turn off the scroll bars and stuff, which makes the thread unviewable, so to prevent this happening, HTML is turned off.

Why is the [IMG] code off then?

That would be so people don't post large images which would make the pages take longer to load, and if the images are on the server, it would increase bandwidth used, therefore increase running costs. I may be wrong, but thats why most people would stop images being posted...

Yep that's right, another forum that I frequent has stopped IMG tags because people were posting "bad" pictures.

Who started NokiaFree and for what purpose? It must be quite expensive to have a site like this with so much traffic running on a server. Do the ads pay off?

It may not cost as much as you think, it's only a forum, not a huge file server.

You can post many attachments tough.. that takes up some space. And here @ NokiaFree, there must've been typed a SH*TLOAD of text allready over the past 3 (as tzeonn remembers) years! my guess is a 1 gig server. that should take it right?

Bandwidth would be the main concern and cost. The DB containing all the post is probably only a couple of hundred MB, but with the volume of users, the amount of bandwidth used would be pretty high, and as most webmasters know, bandwidth costs money.

Yeah, although it is best to be careful, cuz although people say unlimited, there is usaually some sort of fair use policy, and if they think you are using more than is fair, they may ask you to cut down on your usage.

Good thing I never had any problems with my isp before. Let's hope I'll never have either.. Don't think so.. They don't really care if you ask me :D

Yep, that's why with my ISP it kicks you off the net every 5 hours. It's sort of annoying.
