I don't think that I will be buying one, if all the did was change where the speaker is and how you insert games. It's not that much of an improvement.

And Hot Swappable MMC Games Cards
sk3done
31-03-2004, 12:44 PM
1) u cant have hotswopabble mmc or any soldid state cards
2) its going to have a mobile ATI graphics card a 308 (200mgz higer thaen first) arm9 mcu
3)16 megs inbuilt memory and 128 card with it
4) camarea is in pip line but still unknown at this time

Why not? You can have hotswappable cards as long as you don't interrupt or disturb any file transfers to the MMC.
What they can do, is you press a button ... and the MMC will eject electronically ... just like a CD-ROM on a computer. If it's transferring data, then the eject key will not work until the transfer is finished. Know what I mean?
So why is it impossible?
sk3done
31-03-2004, 12:55 PM
its the file system used mate it just not hot swapable and this info is direct from nokia, i run a forum that is now there officle n-gage help forum and this is the info they tell me
Hot swappable I'm sorry I have got to laugh at that one, do you know what happens when you unplug a solid state device that is still fully running? Its called corruption of data and possible hardware failure.
An ability to switch off the card (without shutting down the phone) before removing it may be an option, but hot swappable clearly is not.

31-03-2004, 12:59 PM
oh. i understand now. thanks for clarifying this ...
but what about the SX1 or P900? how do they operate with external memory cards?
sk3done
31-03-2004, 01:01 PM
phone has to be powered off for them phones to load it mate that is how

31-03-2004, 04:33 PM

I personally think there're not yet enough N-gage games coming out for the fist model, but now... N-gage 2?
Hope they will be releasing many games enough for the new model :-?

I thought the Nokia 9500 supports hot swappable memory cards? As for the system files, those are only for the applications you installed in the operating system not the applications that are required for the phone or the symbian OS to run. System files are saved on the phones memory not on the memory card. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that its Symbian 80 but if they have the capability in the 9500 data communicator I don't see why it cannot be implemented in the N-Gage 2 where it would have great use.
The link for the 9500 specs is here, you can read it says hotswap functionality

I don't think that would be the next N-Gage 2 if there's going to be one. If there is one thing sure about Nokia, it's that they don't make crap-designs like the phone on the picture.
the website where the picture is hosted seems to be Chinese or Japanese or sumtin', can any1 who can read this language confirm that they are really talking about an N-Gage 2?

There isn't that many improvements, I definately wouldn't be buying just over those tiny differences.
It will launch the new N-Gage on the 14th of April? I don't think so.

02-04-2004, 01:16 PM

You'd think that if you make up a fake release date, you'd make it believeable. The N-Gage 2 hasn't even been announced on the Official Nokia site.
leespud
02-04-2004, 01:34 PM
maybe the site means nokia will launch the n-gage 2 on that date as in announce it with a big press confrence of something, wont be hitting the shops then though

oh man, can u believe it, ngage 2 coming out b4 7700, 7610?
and ngage aint even 1 yr old yet!
Quake3000
02-04-2004, 06:27 PM
and it will support older games! what about n-gage 1 then it will not support the new n-gage 2 games then? this nokia guyes have no clue what they do stranges that they even can make phones at all

03-04-2004, 12:39 AM
1 thought!!!!!! n-gage = S60 interface, no doubt n-gage 2 = S60 interface, all s60 interface phones play n-gage games hardware permitting but they all run?? arent n-gage 2 games gonna be made the same way?? so there fore play on n-gae??? only thing i can think is iff due to the "cracking" they are gonna ditch the mmc game idea and have new format?? maybe sd?? as no other "nokia" phone supports sd?? or something completely new?? just some thought but dont know
tzeonn
03-04-2004, 04:24 AM
if a ngage 2 ever came out, my bet is nokia upgrades the os to 7.0.
and, lee, even if its sd, im sure placing the crack version on mmc shld work...

I dont think this is a Nokia phone, just look at the screen its wider then a S60 screen besides it turned 90 degrees.

03-04-2004, 04:56 AM
I reckon its fake or an "artist's impression"
Aren't all Series 60 phones have a screen of 176 x 208 or something?

03-04-2004, 04:37 PM
highly skeptical of anything here.. hardly any of the info seems solid... don't think nokia would screw over the n-gage '1' users and also themselves by spending money on r&d for a sequel to a device that has yet to outlive its usefulness.. they'd make more money supporting software development than a new console...

i guess, even though they're in different price ranges (right?)... and the n-gage is really more of a console than a phone... they make money off the device _and_ the software.. it would make sense that if they were gonna put effort anywhere, they would put it in the existing system...

Screwed us Nokia 6600 owners twice! Nokia 6620 and Nokia 7610
Speak of the devil, does 7610 have EDGE tech?

04-04-2004, 03:45 AM
6620 don't bug me that much and the 7610 is really cramped looking.. i'm happy with my 6600.. and nothing said about edge on the nokia website...
nk_au
04-04-2004, 03:46 AM
Yea. Ain't many improvements in Nokia 6620.
Nokia 7610's aesthetic appeal looks great, but I don't like the setout and the look of the internal Symbian OS. Is it OS 7? Anyway, I don't like the inside structure
SO I guess Im keeping me 6600 now ... *whew*

i'm almost certain that its an s60... and i'm also almost certain that s60's use version 7... someone correct me if i'm wrong... one thing i do know for sure is that all sXX's use symbian.. but for some reason everyone says they don't... what does the 's' stand for anyway?

and to answer the edge question: "Another strange point is that Nokia 7610 does not support EDGE and remains the slow speed 40.3kbps GPRS connection."

s = series, series 60 in nokia are symbian fones.
3650, 3660, 7650, ngage are symbian is 6.0
6600, 6620, 7610 i believe too, are symbian os 7.0

What's the difference between OS 6 and 7?
nk_au
05-04-2004, 03:24 AM
It supports WAP 2.0 Browser
Some have xHTML too
65k screen? I think 3600 and 3660 have it ... not sure
That's all I know so far ...
It pisses us off cause we can't use OS 6 games and apps ...

05-04-2004, 04:15 AM
I don't think I listed all the differences, but those are only a few ..
I think there's a web site www.symbian.com
And btw, did Nokia make Symbian? Or did they buy the technology, like they did with Java and Bluetooth?

05-04-2004, 12:23 PM
nokia bought liscences to symbian os (a.k.a) epoc... it was originally made and used in devices (PDA's) made by Psion.. look em up.. i own the Psion Revo.. a lot of people prolly did.. and that ran on version 5 of the symbian os. first device to use symbian was the 9110 i believe.. it used the same version as the Psion PDA's... i guess since version 6, it has been used on celphones exclusively...

I don't know all the difference between Symbian 6 and 7, but there is a difference in sound processing. Most of the games that where written for Symbian 6 will work on Symbian 7 but the sound most of the time wont work, just look at MGS or Doom.

erm, maybe the sound wun work, coz the speakers in 6600 is better than the one on 3650? its 24 bit or sth, compared to 16 or even less of the 3650.

This '7610 screws 6600 owners over' is bollocks, 6600 has been out 3/4 months already, 7610 isn't even out yet.
It's just a natural product progression.
Otherwise you'd be saying '3650 screwed 7650', '6600 screwed 3650' etc.
They're just model replacements and it will always happen in the fast moving technology market.
