well i already have ir on my pc to sync with my 6600 / 7250i & 6510. but i needed to transfer files to my 6600's mmc faster so i wanted to know what exactly to buy and which is faster. i have seen a 8 in 1 card reader / writer for $16 and bluetooth for $45. i am confused with what to get as i need to transfer a 10mb file asap. my friend got this reader writer he says it took only bot 1 min to transfer a 10mb file and i dont think bt is that fast. so plz advise ppl wht to get. thx a lot.

A card reader is most definitaly the fastest way of transfering data. I have both a bluetooth dongle and a card reader. I use the card reader if i have a lot to transfer and the bluetooth for everything else. If I had to have one or the other it would be the card reader. Cheaper, faster and you can organise your memory card a lot easier.

A card reader will be faster than bluetooth. If you have USB2 on your pc, a USB2 card reader will be very quick for you. I'm not sure how much faster, as the bottleneck would be the memory card, but thats the cheaper and faster solution.

The choice is really yours. I'd go for bluetooth though, but if I was thinking of transferring lots of large files at a time then I would get the card reader.

I'd say the same. USB1 card reader will still be quicker than bluetooth, yes.

Bluetooth has a lot more uses than jst transferring files, things like RemoteS60 work good over a bluetooth link, you can have a Bluetooth internet LAN running at home, etc. BUt if you're not going to be doing any of that stuff then jst get a reader, it's cheaper and probably will suit your purpose..
Cheers

I would get both, they are both cheap and atleast with the memory card reader you can use the other cards if need be if you buy the 8-1 version.

Connected to my PC two months ago was Infrared, Bluetooth and MMC Card Reader/Writer

Connected to my PC today is Bluetooth and MMC Card Reader/Writer. The only reason why I keep the MMC Card Reader/Writer is because my dad uses a Digital Camera with CF Cards, my sister uses a Digital Camera with SD cards and my camera phone uses MMC cards. Infrared is in the garage somewhere. I should fish it out and sell it.

So I reckon you should get Bluetooth only

If you plus a USB 2 device into a USB 1.1 port, the USB 2 device will run at the speed of a 1.1

i know that if i get usb2 it will run at usb1.1 speed, but the device is usb2 ready i meant. i dont think i need usb1.1 card since i have 6 usb ports already on my pc of which 4 are free so its ok i guess. i wanted to know if nething like usb2 card is available or not. then it wud much faster, not sure if u can do this but.

tzeonn
13-04-2004, 12:05 PM
erm, i dun tink u need to upgrade, i mean, even at 1.1, its gonna b fast too.

gophermaster
13-04-2004, 12:09 PM
Yeah, it should be plenty fast enough. I wouldn't waste any more money just for a USB2 port, unless you use it a lot.

All part of the file system and way the manufacturer counted the capacity. Like tzeonn says, nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't fill it with too much software, else your phone will slow right down. Fill it with Videos, MP3's, Sounds and whatever else you might need. You could, for example, record some TV progs using a PC TV Tuner card, then convert em into a format for your phone, and sit on the bus in the morning, watching stuff you missed the previous night on telly.

hi thx for the advice man. neways i dunno but it has already slowed it down a lil i feel. have put some stuff in it. it kinda hung 2 times dunno if its the card or wht i did format it b4 using it. dunno ill try again now. dont need tv programs for sure since i dont travel by bus at all. havent been in one of those in 3 yrs. but i guess pics and vids and all are nice idea, i have bot 183 mb free now was thinking of some mp3s as well
