Guys, plz forget about MP3's they're history. OMG i've just discovered the ogg music files. The quality, the size :) .
I've used Adobe Audition with a ogg plugin to convert a mp3 (stereo @ 4.95 MB) to a OGG (mono @ 1.96 MB) and the quality remains. Oh My God (again LOL).
Maybe i've been ignorant to the ogg files but they're the futere, and the best bit is......it's opensoucre. Take a look at the (skinnable) player for out s60 phones. http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/ bye bye Ultramp3 helloooooo Oggplay :) :) :)
(still haven't played a ogg file on my phone with it, but I'll keep you posted)
bye bye

yup it plays them just fine, a little bit less loud than Ultramp3 but still the quality is daimn good.
Oh you have to convert the files to at least 16000 Hz. I used a file that is 44100 Hz but it still plays it in a correct way, (it converts it on the fly) but you get a warning that the phone is only capable of playing files @ a max of 16000 Hz.

So all it does is change the MP3 from stereo to mono? What's so amazing about that? Change your MP3s to mono and also lower the bitrate and you will have a normal sounding MP3 that has a very small file size.

noper, Ogg is still smaller in size while giving a better result, i.e. better quality.
If you like, i can do a size comparison. You know what, I'll do it anyways. :) :)
I'll pick a file and convert them. So the battle is on
round one: Ogg versus Mp3

ok, I've converted a 8,9 MB Mp3 file to a 16000 Hz @ 32 Kbps mp3, and it was 2.2 MB (adobe wouldn't let me choose a higher bitrate)
The same file was converted to a Ogg and came out as 16000 Hz @ 48 Kbps but the file is 2.8 MB.
Naturally the ogg sounded better (higher bitrate) so it isn't a fair match.
but hey, the oggplayer is free and looks cool. So I'll stich with it.

what I did, was the following:
install either Adobe Audition or cooledit.
download the filter at http://www.vuplayer.com/other.htm
and voila, when you want to save a file in these programs just choose
'save as' and there you have it the ogg filesystem.
Attention, be awere that you should put the filter in the correct folder of the program. This can't miss, the filter is a *.flt file just put it in the folder where the rest of the *.flt files are.

Yeah this "OGG" file is larger and has better sound because it has a higher bitrate.

hehe... what about ogg/mp3 vs. mod/it/xm/s3m???
10:30 song in mod.... 650kb with WAV quality (which means better than ogg and mp3) the mp3 file gets 10mb
2:30 song in s3m.... 8kb (!) still wav quality
the most extreme is a 2:00 it file.... 1kb! this is less than a text document! the song is total shit tho but still..... hehe
good songs are usually something like this: 3:30 xm/it 1mb
they cant be compared

Hello Guys!!
I'm new here and this is my first post.. :-P
Today I have received my N-Gage, so it's the whole day that I install progs and stuff on my phone.. :D
I also installed OggPlay v1.0 and it looks and sounds great! But there is this problem, the warning message that appears each time..
Is there a way to let oggplayer work with N-gage? I mean stereo and at 44100?
Thanks a lot,
Patrizia

our fones, don't play files @ 44100 hz but 2 16000 hz. And if you try to play a 44100 hz file with oggplay it will give a warning, and then plays the song 2 16000 hz.
I'm using a 6600 so I don't really know any problems with the n-gage

Hm.. So when I put an MP3 on my phone and reproduce it with the mp3 player I hear it only at 16000 althought it is a 44100 file?
I din't know this..
I tried to reencode my ogg files, they're now 16000hz and mono, I put them on my MMC and reproduced them, that's not too bad, but of course you can year the difference with ad 128kb stereo 44100 Mp3 :(
