I upgraded my 3650 to firmware 4.13. After that i got an error message all the time: SIM-card registration failed. The error message disappeared however when I tried other people's SIM-cards. Strangely, the phone seemed to boot faster with other SIM-cards in it too.

Now the error message seems to be gone, but I have another BIG problem. It's very hard to get the phone to boot. Most times it hangs at the Nokia logo. I have tried safe mode but that doesn't seem to help. The problem seems to get worse, the more I put on my MMC. What should I do?

i just upgraded the firmwareo n my 3650 to 4.13 and i get the same problem where it hangs at the nokia logo. i took it back to the club nokia service centre and they sent if off for repair. 3 weeks later and i get it back to find that it still hangs just not as often as it did.im not gonna bother takin it back cos i can live with it, i normally find that if i wip the battery and mmc out quick then back in it usually boots. thinkin about formatting it and seein if that changes anything???.

also noticed that it did boot faster when it didnt hang??

as with the other problems you got, ive not got any of them?? my sim is fine and the mmc is great (twinmos 128mb) only got about 50megs left on it

have you tried formatting it??

No, I haven't formatted it since I got this firmware. I had another version of the 4.13 firmware (with vodafone). I had the same problem and tried formatting, but it didn't help.

My warranty runs out in less than a month. And the people at the service center don't seem to want to help me anymore, because they discovered my phone has been unlocked. I didn't unlock it, since I bought it second hand.

My MMC is a very cheap one, but it worked perfectly with my old firmware (2.50).

think its just a crappy firmware, probs not even tested properly???lol. you could always try and get them to downgrade the firmware to the previous one or your original one and see if works any better? other than that im stumped,

oh btw, before you upgraded your firmware, when you listened to mp3's (if you did??) through a hands free, did the music play through both the hands free and the loud speaker??? or did it just play through the hands free???

oh and i think the cheaper MMC's work better than some high quality makes lol or according to a post on here about MMC's?

Ok, what is the latest firmware? Is there a newer one than 4.13? Maybe I can get them to install the original firmware again. The only positive thing I have noticed with this firmware, is that some games that didn't work b4 works now.

I'm not sure if it was with this firmware or the old one that I tried a mp3 player (ultramp3). The music played through both the handsfree and the speaker. But I tried the trick to insert the plug slowly, and that helped.

This firmware has been a pain in the ass. I have to get the problem fixed before the warranty runs out. But ok, the SIM-card error and the boot problems are the only problems I've had.

how do u boot in safe mode??

Hold down the pencil button while you boot. But in my case safe mode doesn't help at all.

That seems to be an infamous 3650 bug I have read about before. If I remember correctly, the only thing that helps is to flash the phone with a new firmware.

Of course you can flash the phone with that cable, and install the 2nd version of the firmware. (a bit of advice: sometimes flashing f*cks up the phone)

yeah i had that mp3 problem, and did put the plug in slowley. thats why i updated the firmware to fix that which it did but at the price of new problems

It's the same damned problem I have. And it just seems to be getting worse, the more I put on my MMC. Could it have something to do with that I have created a new folder in the root on E: ? I would be greatful for any tips how to solve this problem.

i dont think its cos you got a folder on E:. ive got loads of folders on my E:like MP3, ROMS, Videos etc. dont think were gonna be able to solve the boot problem unless we downgrade the firmware or nokia release a new version of it???? i might email nokia and try and find out somethin

will let you all know what they say if anything

Ok, thanks! I'm worried since my warranty soon runs out. It's also annoying that the phone worked perfectly with the old firmware.

ok, havnt got anything back from nokia yet but was too impatient to wait so i formatted my phone and MMC

so far everything seems ok, it boots perfectly first time everytime, got the sim registration failed a few times, and every time i exited the menu i got that msg but took the sim out and tried my old sim in and that worked fine then put my normal sim in and it works fine now.

ive got no error messages up, it boots first time, my hands free still works fine when i play music without it playing through the loud speaker as well.

ive just put everything back on my MMC and its all good :)

but now im wondering why it took the guys who repaired it (supposidly) took 3 weeks and then at the end of it the phone hadnt changed one bit, and now ive just formatted it and everything is fine???

could be related to the applications u installed to ur fone, formatting thus solved it, perhaps.

Oh, so u did get the "sim-card registration failed" error. If I remember correctly I got it the first time after I formatted the phone. Was your phone unlocked with a "pirate code"? Mine was, by the former owner.

U put all the stuff back and it works perfectly. Did u just make a backup of the MMC, and then just copied the stuff back? Or did u install all the applications again manually?

my phone was unlocked when i got it cos its on contract. yeah i did get the sim registration failed a few times after i formatted. first i put the MMC in my card reader and formatted it on my comp using FAT16 file system, then put it in the phone and did the *#7370# code and formatted my phone, then when it had formatted i formatted the MMC again but this time using the phone. didnt make any backups of the MMC just got rid of everything on it as i have all the software etc on my comp.

it could have been some software i installed but i havnt really got anythin different on my phone to what i normally have on it. except i installed killer virus and sky force. but their running fine now???

but yeah, its all good now :)

Ok, the sim-card error and formatting the phone seems connected somehow.
I tried my dad's sim-card in the phone today, and it booted perfectly two times in a row. Now I'm getting a diffent version of the firmware installed. I hope it doesn't mess up the phone even more.

I'm glad that your phone is working perfectly now. :)

Problem solved...probably. I got my phone back today. I got it flashed with a Swedish version of firmware 4.13. The phone still has problem booting with my SIM-card, but it works perfectly with other people's cards. So I'm gonna get a new SIM-card.

cool, i got an email back from nokia finally. they said they are urging me to take it back to a service centre to get it fixed and that its very rare that these problems occur, or somethin like that.

ya know, that sim card registration thing might be somthing to do with when you format. we've both formatted the phone with our sim cards in that we always use, and we've both got the sim registration error yet every other sim works fine in it. what if we format it with some other sim in and see if we get a registration error, and if we do just put our original sims back in, if not then justput our normal sims back in anyways

So what software is needed for the mBus cable to flash? I've heard u need a dongle as well. Can u use just the mBus?

Thanx, Andy.

I was getting the same message: "sim card registration failed" everytime I exited the menu. What worked for me (v4.13) is to take out the sim card, replace it with a different one, turn the phone on and then off, put back your own sim card and the problem is gone. I was pretty close to formatting the phone, glad I didn't do it, hope this might help anyone.
