You know the N-Gage QD? You know its new battery, the BL-6C? Would the original N-Gage and the 6600 be able to use the BL-6C battery?
Obviously this new battery has to have some kind of improvement ...

BL-5C: Li-Ion based 850 mAh battery provides power in a thin and light package.
BL-6C: This Li-Ion 1070 mAh battery is a compact, lightweight battery that provides extended power for your compatible Nokia phone.
Not sure about the BL-6C's dimensions. Is it the higher the mAh ... the better? And if so, in what way?

I hope that it will be compatible. I would buy one for my N-Gage if they were.

Positive and Negative points are at the same location. And what do you mean by "chargers"?

On the Nokia 6600 Features page at nokia.com:
BL-5C Li-Ion
Up to 4 hours Talktime
Up to 240 hours Standby Time
On the Nokia N-Gage QD Features page at n-gage.com:
BL-6C Li-Ion
Up to 3.5 hours Talktime
Up to 240 hours Standby Time
About 5 - 10 hours Gaming Time
I don't see much difference ... even though the BL-6C has a higher mAh ...

6600 - 240hrs?????? thats 10 days!!!!! thats crap!! 3 days if your lucky!!

I know Leespud. Mine never lasts for more than a day, unless I don't even use the phone at all.
Maybe Nokia is b*llsh1tting?

Okay. I'm not really sure.
I'll look at it in this sense...
The N-Gage QD is using the BL-6C.
The N-Gage is using the original BL-5C.
They are similar phones, so that is why I am using both of those to compare. (the 6600 could be more power efficient or something).
BL-6C: Talk time - Up to 3.5 hours
Standby - Up to 240 hours
Games - 5 to 10 hours.
BL-5C: Talk time - Up to 2-4 hours.
Standby - Up to 150-200 hours.
Games - 3-6 hours.
So basically the BL-6C is a bit better.
Oh, and the chargers are both ACP-12. So it's all good.
nk_au
16-04-2004, 12:11 PM
That looks correct now. Guess I made the mistake by comparing with the 6600, which might be efficient in power drainage.
But if its efficient in using power with the BL-5C, logically ... it should do the same with the BL-6C
I'll wait until the N-Gage QD is released, and then have a look at this BL-6C ...
Until then, I'll be trying to find the dimensions of the battery ... to see if it is smaller, same size or larger than the BL-5C. Then we can tell whether it fits or not ...
gophermaster
16-04-2004, 12:19 PM
Yeah, given that the BL-6C has a higher mAh, then it should last longer than the BL-5C.

mayb nokia chose to use a better batt, coz ppl complained ngage alwaz run out of batt juice?

Some one could test the 6C in a 6600??? I have to buy one battery plus.. and if a 6C works good and its size fill in a 6600 I try to keep one..
Surely more mAh it has, more charge u have on the phone.. and more time to charge it.
So plz test if u can :)

I am willing to test the BL-6C in my 6600, however the only problem is that I live in Australia. Why is this the problem? Mainly because all the good stuff aren't in the local phone store, they are all on Ebay AU. Which means I have to bid on auctions or buy it now ... and sometimes the item aren't for sale.
So I might have to wait awhile after the release of the QD

17-04-2004, 01:42 AM
You might want to watch out though, because if you use a batt that provides a bigger amount of mAh than the phone can handle, then you might burn your 6600..... :?
nk_au
17-04-2004, 01:44 AM
Ok ... I'll try it on my mate's 6600 lol  just jks. Is it worth taking the risk?

I'm taking the risk. As soon as it comes out, I will be buying it.

Yes it is. And probably available for the N-Gage QD only at the moment so it can have more gaming hours

must be ppl complaining bout batt juice on symbian fones not lasting long enough, so they made a new one for future models.

Having a larger capacity would not burn out your phone. A higher votage would, but that is not the case. Its all safe, and I would be happy to take it for a spin in my fone. Chances are, it would just blow a fuse or somthing, which i'm sure nokia would repair if you played dumb...

I don't know if the 6C has the same voltage of the 5C, i'm surely it has because the charger is the same.. so if it has the same voltage it surely not burn your 6600!! Only have more time battery life charge and more time to charge it!
If someone try and the 6600 turns on without SW crashes (it cold be but i really dubt) then i run to take one ;)

Very nice information. I understand more about batteries now lol :-P
I'll just have to set aside some cash to buy this 6C battery. Or "borrow" from someone who will buy the N-Gage QD. It's all good.
The 5C and 6C has the same shape and "artwork" patterns right? If so, a little switch woudn't be obvious would it?

The highter the mAh (Milli-amp per hour), means that the battery will last longer. Are the chargers the same?
...and the battery's dimension or size will be bigger. Higher mAH rating is directly proportional to bigger battery size. Charger could be the same as long as the batts have same voltage, although the higher mAH batt will take longer time to charge.
nk_au
18-04-2004, 05:28 AM
Ok, so I presume you guys reckon that 6C will be larger than 5C ... just like the 5C larger than the 4C?

Yeah, i recon it would be thicker, and the dimensions the same, so it should be exchangable with your 5C you have now. Does anyone remember the standard batts shipped with your 3310/3330 and then the newer lightweight versions shipped with 3410? The heavy 3310 batt was thicker than the lighter version, so when you switched the batts over, they were slightly loose in the phone. This time, it will be the opposite, but as they method of holding the battery in is different to the 3310 in the 3650/6600, there shouldn't be a problem. The back cover will just be tight, or require some minor modding of the cover. Either way, I think it will be worthwhile. Nokia tend to stick with similar dimensions, so i recon we'll all have extended battery lives, which can only be a good thing. Might be slightly heavier tho...

Spot on. I had the Bl 4c battery in my 6100. I put the BL 5C battery from an Ngage into it and it worked fine cept that the back cover wouldn't go back on on account of a slight increase in thickness. Never seen a 6600 without the back cover on, but if theres enough space between the batt & back cover it should be fine and you will have a longer playing time, with a (slightly) longer charging time.
Musicb0ffin
20-04-2004, 08:09 PM
If you look on the back of the cover, there are fins which i assume are to hold the standard battery in. You could sand these down, and then the cover may fit on, tightly praps, but it might be able to be fitted back on. Might be better to test with a 3rd party cover, if you can get hold of one, to save buggering a decent nokia facia should it not work out.
Not necessarily... it could be the same size BUT thicker.
I think the battery dimensions will be the same but will be heavier (but not thicker)
As you can see, I'm in mini 4wd racing once and i can say that the higher mah your AA battery has, the heavier it gets...
Got it???
Musicb0ffin
23-04-2004, 07:18 PM
It will be heavier, yes, and that is because there is physically more acid in the battery. The internal volume of the battery would then have to be increased to accomadate the extra acid, so the battery would be thicker.

Not always. They could use finer materials or something.

24-04-2004, 05:02 PM
Aren't both batts LI-ION? If it was the same dimensions, that would be cool. A longer batt life whith no extra size or weight. Doesn't get much better.
gophermaster
25-04-2004, 03:29 AM
Well... there MIGHT be a small difference in the size. The R/C car batteries that I use are roughly the same dimensions.

Good news! I have already mentioned a previous thread of mine:
I met a guy at the N-Gage.com forums who has a pre-release N-Gage QD (Don't ask how. I don't know).
He says that he is 99.9% sure that the BL-6C will fit into a 6600, as the BL-6C is the same size as the BL-5C
This is extremely good news!

Guess I need to start saving up money again for the following things:
1. Sonic Limited Edition Cover
2. Nokia BL-6C Battery
3. Skullcrusher Headphones (enhancement listed at www.n-gage.com)
4. Shoulder Bag (not Bike Bag! listed on www.n-gage.com as enhancement)
5. N-Gage Game: Pathway to Glory
How much would this all be in the Grand Total?

BL-6C battery won't fit in 6600 or N-gage cause it's thicker, trust me i'm from singapore and my fren got the QD and i tried the batt on me phone(6600) can't even close the back cover too thick.

ldicdican
21-06-2004, 08:45 AM
yup! that's true!
6C would be thicker than 5C, that extra thickness provides that extra mAh compared with 5C.
old 3310 batteries are NiMh that's why they are thicker and heavier compared to thin ones - that is Lithium Ion ! i don't know if NiMh batteries for 3310 still exists(on-production)? but i prefer those NiMh because they have LONGER LIFE SPAN than Lithium-Ions! :thumb:
i can salvage the 3 cells on a BMC-3(3310 batteries), each has 1.2v and found it to be functional. it is the battery-management(charging) circuit that is busted, but the cells are in VERY GOOD CONDITION!!!

@nk_au
sori to disappoint u pal, but the BLC6 is really bigger and not compatible. my place is selling ngage QD oredi and i tried to fit the battery in, to no avail....
jeez....
i wish that it can fit into my 6600 too. the battery can hardly last for a day!
nk_au
22-06-2004, 09:07 AM
Its ok reficul_x. No problems
Somehow ... the 7610 is more efficient than the 6600 with the BL-5C. I'm happy :D
My phone has lasted for over 24 hours now, with Bluetooth on the whole time! :-o
No need for BL-6C anymore! :-P
