Today at the local Nokia's press conference where they introduced 6610,
3510i and 3650 I had the opportunity to talk to one guy from finland who
made all answers to my questions about Field Test (Net monitor) in newer
phones (DCT4 and beyond)

From DCT4 generation to future Net monitor will be available ONLY in the
phones that are set in factory to have such feature, it's not a software
thing anymore. Phones with Net monitor enabled can be ordered at local Nokia
deraler if you are a network engeener (or, as like me - press :-) It will
not be able to eneble it with any newer version of WinPhoenix or any other
service software, it can be done ONLY in the factory.

The reason - the network providers made complaints to Nokia on easy Net
monitor enabling so users could easyly measure signal strenght and other
service features and made a lot of complaints about the "real service" :-)

So, I guess tat is the end of story of Nokias and Field test for ordinairy
people...If you have someone working in an ditributive center or Nokia
dealer you can order it for youself, NO ENABLING BY END-USERS WILL NOT BE
AVAILABLE, as far as Nokia is concerned (I hava an offer at the dealer to
order mine with Net mon)

Also, I got to play with 6610 and with 3650. They also had one 3510 that was
supposed to fool people they have 3510i, it was turned of all the time but
you could see the display is green (monochrome)

And - tadaaaaa - 3650 had Test (Field Test) Bug icon - Net monitor installed
and I'm giving you an exclusive picture of the screen

Also, I'm giving SW versions shots of both 6610 and 3650

Few words about the monitor - It is lot more user friendly and had full
names and long sentence descrpitions

ok, well why in this case does my 6510 say "shotcut not available" when you hit menu then 14? and not "invalid shortcut" like if you hit 15 or above? (menu 13 is interactive and not available on all sim's).

just something to think about,
Dave.

my company just buy a few numbers of 8310 and 6510 phone. We just ask the dealer to add in engineering mode (Netmonitor)and we got it. The dealer have to refer to Nokia how to activate it. So i still confident that either the new version software or program can show up the netmonitor menu. The new things on GPRS phone is for Netmonitor is another one menu call group 06. The method of use it also different like 0101 if you need to see group 01 Page 01 or 0601 to see group 06 page 1. The group 06 is mainly for GPRS network monitoring. Correct me if i am wrong.

please go to forum

pls check what he comments below;

To ensure that there is really a special firmware version just flash a field test display enabled phone with a new firmware version in a normal service center. When field test display is gone, you are probably right, if field test display is still there, there is either a special firmware add-on or just a eeprom value in the phone or the service center phoenix could the detect original field test display enabled phone before flashing.

Against a firmware add-on there is the following argument: Field test display could be quite old, but normal firmware could be much newer and this could cause either conflicts or nokia is restricted in the development of newer firmware. Do you really guess, that a network operator would like to send all its field test display phones back to factory every time a new firmware is available?

Nobody can read out a dct-4 flash this time, and of course nokia says that there is a special firmware, but this has nothing to say.
They tell this to us even during DCT-3 generation until PC-Locals find its way out of R&D department. I guess that there is just a secret m-bus command to activate field test display and this activation software remains in nokia R&D or the command is available only in the R&D version of phoenix (why service centers only have access to the 3.76.002 version, there should be a 3.76.001 version, too)

When you just look to the flash service package for 3510 NHM-8 version 3.34 you will find a file named ftd.set and the following content [FTD_Activation #CD524680-C794-11d5-AD11-009027A2E3DE]
00

and there is a 0508270.ini file with the following content [ProductInfo]
ProductType=NHM-8
PpmId=C
Description=FTD
RestoreDefaultRestore=1
UseDefaultProductProfile=Yes

[Settings]
Setting1 = FTD
Setting2 = FileManager - All files

File = C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\NHM-8\ftd.set
