There is a new app called PhotoAcute that can make you take 1.3Megapixel photos using ur regular nokia VGA ones.

I tried it and it actually works.

PS. I tried to attach some pics but whenever I press the manage attachments button the internet explorer crashes.

Just downloaded the trial version from their website ( www.photoacute.com )
and it doesn't work on my 6600.

i tested on my 3650, but requires lot's of memory :-o

AkiraYuki
14-05-2004, 11:07 PM
Yeah, according to the website it's designed for 3650 and 3660! Pesky little varmits! Why write a top program for an out of date phone (3650)??

Iceman5
14-05-2004, 11:31 PM
ok i tested the trial and it WORKED on my 6600.... and holy crap it took my entire screen when sent to comp! its HUGE... didnt know my phone could do this :-P

the picture quality could be better but i guess it was bad coz i didnt hold the phone still when taking the pic at all... besides on their webbie they say that they'll improve the quality in future versions.... looking forward to it (+crack)... it took a pretty long time to save the picture tho... but its sure worth it!

AkiraYuki

What firmware are you using? I'm on v4.09.1 (26-02-04).
When I run the program it just hangs on the splash screen. If I press the right softkey, I get the options "Photo Album" , "Register" and "Exit". Only "Exit" works.

Guys this little program is worth buying. Really, I've just installed the 'fixed' version and it rocks. made a picture and enhanced it to the 1.3 mp size. But i thought whats the effort? I mean Adobe can process these pics much quicker!! So I took the Studio pic the proggie also makes (the smale picture) and resized it with Adobe elements to 1280 x 960 and the quality was much worse than the proggie on my 6600 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)

OMG Finally after all this time there is a innovative program (again).

bye all I know I'm going to make much more pics now :)

sidzzz
15-05-2004, 11:21 AM
installed it ....

but the photo gallery doesnt open and also cant find the picture in the gallery.

just that there are files of extn .sqd , .sqi and .sqt

what can be the possible problem.

Sordatino
15-05-2004, 12:41 PM
Did you process the pic?

P.S.: pics quality is still low, but with this babe it rises a lot...

15-05-2004, 01:17 PM
All it's doing is enlarging the picture at the time isn't it?

There's no real advantage? :S

Oh well i'll have a look at it

15-05-2004, 01:30 PM

I thought this app was a fake at first, but its not!! Amazing...

You need to scroll accross to the 4th menu (far right) and use up and down to scroll through the pics. When u get the one u want, press the left soft key, and select process. It takes a while, probably cuz the processor in my 3650 is quite slow, but then the pic is put in your images folder. It even gives you the original as well, which is quite cool. I'm still trying to work out the other menus at the top. One changes how many photos it takes. On changes between day and night... Can't work out the other one.

Does anyone know of that app which lets you compress your RAM without restarting? That would be really handy, cuz this app needs loads of RAM to run. It would save restarting.

ok..
i took two photos with my
normal 6600 CAM and the PhotoAcute..

well not jus two photos..
but a couple of it...

did the processing
(took a hell of a lot of time I tell you..)

I noticed a BIG difference..
the main one being the size...

but hey..

I enlarged (zoomed) the pic I took with my normal CAM
and it looks (almost) the same!? (no pixelization!)

don't you guys notice this?!
I mean.. a little tweaking in photoshop could get you the same quality
(jus a lil bit of softening and edge enhance would do!) :-P

That's just my personal point of view..

anyways... photoacute is good stuff..
hope they make good changes in the future versions

its definetly cool! ive tested it and the quality is good! i mean, i took a picture of a box using the default cam software and this app. in the picture which i used this app, the markings on the box are clearly seen while on the default software, the markings arent as visible as the picture taken with this app even if i zoomed it in. so for me, thumbs up for this app!

nice changing of ideas on this appz, photoAcute....
All i can say is.. this apps really rocks when you use your phone as a digicam and you bring it to the kodak center or any picture center to develop it, the prints of picture is in high quality coz of 1280by960 pixels.
try to snap two pictures using photoacute and your phone builtin camera apps, and bring anywhere has picture express who accept developing and printing your pictures on phone and you see the differences......

apps 4 all

20-05-2004, 12:33 AM
I'll be damned! It works! :D

Okay it takes up a lot of memory (3MB) and time (2 min. ) to generate the picture, but still... IT WORKS!

Looking forward to version 1.01

20-05-2004, 06:12 AM
Actually I'm still skeptical regarding the improvement. I compared them side by side and it seems that the picture was just enlarged. I used IE, paint and Photo Editor to compare it. Any suggestion what software will I use to really test the difference?

What is the optimal setting to see the difference? You can change the jpg quality (default 3) as well the number of snapshots (default 4)the program will use.

Space monkey
20-05-2004, 07:26 PM
Optimal settings are snapshots to 8 and jpeg compression to 1

McF_182

I dont know if they really are sharper. I maxed out the pictures at 8 and compression at 1 and took about 4 different pictures. The picture taken with the regular camera looked almost the exact same only smaller. I dont think they have me convinced yet.

Normal photo:

The same normal photo, I have just made it biger in photoshop so it will be 1280x960 px

640x480 -biger (http://home.swipnet.se/~w-151649/photo6600/640x480_2.jpg)

And the photo taken using this program:

1280x960 (http://home.swipnet.se/~w-151649/photo6600/1280x960.jpg)

Now its for You to decide...

Ok, now to business ...

Firstly, you must understand that NFREE tries to prevent any cracks or warez existing in this forum. So next time, visit www.aivanet.com (at the moment down) or a similar site.
If you know what mIRC is, access #mediaplace or #aivanet through an EFNET server

Secondly, the program that plays a background sound while ur in a call is called "SounderCover". For a 6600, you need the version 1.21 installed, and change the Mode to "Mode2". If you use a SX1, Mode2 is for you too. Mode1 is only for 3650, 7650 and N-Gage.

Thirdly, I don't think there is a program that changes your voice during a call. If there is ... I'm eager to search for it. I want to sound like Darth Vader to my friends ...

Hope that helps!

Nokia 6600, compression level 3

Pic taken with Nokia Cam. (resized to 1280x980)
nokia cam. (http://www.mclam.cistron.nl/test/nokia.jpg)
Pic taken with Photo Acute 1.01 not processed. (resized to 1280x980)
orginal (http://www.mclam.cistron.nl/test/org.jpg)
Pic taken with Photo Acute 1.01 processed. (resized by PhotoAcute)
processed (http://www.mclam.cistron.nl/test/procesed.jpg) ;)
Zoomed and resized parts.
zoom (http://www.mclam.cistron.nl/test/Image2.jpg)

I think the processed is sharper with a little bit blurr and the colors are more naturaly. The other ones are blocky by the resize process with photoshop.

I don't think so, the wall textures of the Photo Acute picture are sharper then the orginal Nokia resized one. I think this app works fine but it's to slow.
unless you want to print your photo's from your phone.

in photoshop when you resize small pic to a bigger pic = blur parts all over
but when you resize bigger pic to small pic the sharpness still retains which is why we have over 5Mpixdigital cam

Ok guys, I think I have found an answer. I found this over in the Mediaplace forum:

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in PhotoAcute!

The current version of PhotoAcute is tuned for Nokia 3650. Nokia 6600 has
different camera, so the 3650 version will not give high quality on 6600.
The version for 6600 will be released in a week.

Sincerely,
PhotoAcute Team

I know that I have been comparing the 2 fotos with my 6600, and could not tell a difference. Maybe when the new version that is optimized for the 6600 is released, we will all be able to see the difference!?

Vampish
25-05-2004, 11:40 AM
Hi,
Check out the differences with these pics I took of a magazine cover (text is the toughest to capture) with my 6600 (8 snapshots, JPEG compression level 1):

Standard:

http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v154/Vampish/Nokia%206600%20Photos/image49_std0.jpg

With PhotoAcute:

http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v154/Vampish/Nokia%206600%20Photos/image49.jpg

You can tell the edges and words are a lot sharper and more readible and for colour shades, you can compare the difference between the word "Stuff" on top. The PhotoAcute-processed image is a lot richer and has minimal noise.

;)

I tried it out and have to say that I really do not notice any big difference.
I use the phone to call and the photos I take, I just keep them in my phone.
When I look at both photos (1 taken with the original software and the other with photoacute) they look very VERY similar. Not a big difference as I said before.
Not that great discover so far

First you have to understand how digital cameras compress images. The images are normally compressed using a jpeg style color matching system. Very similiar colors that are located next to each other are matched and saved as the same color. Try it yourself, take a photo and save it using very little compression, then save the original using heavy compression, you will see the compressed version has color lines where the software has matched similiar colors then resaved it as the same color. This leads to fewer colors and hence a smaller file. Each time you take a photo, even of the same scene, the compression saves each pixal with slight changes. It may look exactly like the photo you just took, but if you zoom you can see the individual pixal differences. So you can take multiple photos of the same image and collapse them onto each other generating an image with more variety in pixal color changes "less jpeg compression" and end up with an image that is a "better" or larger. More photos = more information = a better photo. If you look at this companies web site they are using this same techique which I originally read about in the early days of digital cameras. And a large photo at the same rez of a smaller photo is a better photo. Hope this helps, lincco.com

How does it work?

PhotoAcute makes several snapshots in series, thus acquiring more graphic information. Using sophisticated, proprietary algorithms it combines the individual snapshots to produce one large-sized and high-quality image. It also performs image processing to make it sharper and remove defects. Using the state-of-art algorithms allows achieving great increase in quality. (See details in the Technology section)

... taken from the website.

Hmm, well, doesn't that mean it takes multiple camera photos from different positions? So when you go to use it, do you have to take several shots?

I'd try it if i had 6600; but I fail to see the pt since i have 7610.
