Just want to share an idea of mine. I don't know is anybody started these projects yet.

Project:
Voice Trans-Cell-Lator

Description:
A voice gateway system that accepts caller using a different language and calls the other party and "talks" on another language. Repy from other party is translated to caller's language.

Setup:
Two Nokia cellphones conected to a single computer via datacables.

Adapted from:
Star Trek's Universal Translator/communicator

Contraints:
1. Both party should speak slow and clear for the gateway to translate their language properly.

2. Voice heard by other party is a "computer voice" in monolouge. Caller hears the reply also in "computer voice".

Starting point:
Trans-Cell-Lator - SMS version.

Description:
Party1 does a 1 time configuration for each new contact (Party2) by sending to the gateway: TCL ENGLISH2ARABIC +11223456789 AS ABDUL

ENGLISH is the language of Party1
ARABIC is the language of Party2
+11223456789 is the cellphone number of Party2
AS ABDUL - ABDUL is the alias for +11223456789

Now, party1 can start SMS with Party2. He sends SMS messages in English to the gateway in the following format:
ALIAS message
Where ALIAS is ABDUL and this his message for Abdul.

The gateway forwards the SMS messages in Arabic to +11223456789. Party2 replies to the gateway in Arabic and forwards the message to Party1 in English, receiving the message like:

FROM ABDUL: I'm impressed. You know Arabic.
