Hey,
I just came across a post in AllAboutSymbian posted by Floydian1 and looked at this link:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/epoc.cabir.html
Looks like virus's are now a major concern for our phones.

Dang ... a virus already?
Guess we can prevent the spread ... by making sure what SIS files we're installing and check what our friends' are sending us :)
I usually turn my Bluetooth off anyway ...
And if it does attack my phone via Bluetooth, wouldn't I have to accept it first? :-?

I fink most "virus" reports are caused by beta versions of series 60 applications. Just like wildskinz that crapped up my phone once. Even FExplorer made my phone crash once (when applying an operator logo). These so not have a purpose as a virus tough because they don't copy thereselves. The one in the article - EPOC.Cabir - on the other hand DOES replicates himself as much as it can. It doesnt affect anything exept the battery-life so that's still livable but what if they made one that first replicates itself to 10 devices and poo's up yar phone, that would get pretty nasty when that starts ocurring. Ah well, I got my bluetooth swiched off any time so I'm mostly safe. (or at least I think I am ;))

Hi,
So far it isn't much to worry about as has been said, as bluetooth can be turned off etc.
But this is probably just the start, as we go along and more applications are written more will emerge I'm sure.
There was already talk of such virus's months ago and nothing was backed up with proof, but it's there now indicating the possability is there.

OMG!!! :-o
so, you think there really is a back-door in bluetooth that can be used to bluejack phones?
symantec said that the virus spreads itself with the use of bluetooth but didnt really explained on how the virus goes into the phone...
Will it automatically be installed on the phone or it will infect the phone if the victim accepts the file and installs it?? :-?

Yeah. The only virus that might ever happen on S60 phones will be a trojanhorse like virus.
Speaking about Trojan Horses, Damn that movie Troy sucked...

I've encountered a couple of viruses in my time. Most of them install a large file to your phone mem then when you try to uninstall them it rolls back and is still there. It's not hard to remove the files one by one but i could see it crushing a noob into a million bits.

it can only get worse :O(
and yeah apart from stuff that kills your phone, a virus that sends expensive sms's would SUCK...
someone up there said something about people doing it to make money from sms big brother style.. i guess they could get caught that way though.. but still :-?

Hahaha, Yay, this is like the only virus so far though...
P.S. It's not just that it sucked, but it was so inaccurate. Too much made-up stuff throughout the film.
