Hi All,

Beginner here, new to downloading apps for my phone...

What would you guys say are essential applications to have on your 6600?
Trying to figure out what i should be getting for this lovely phone to get the most out of it and where to get it from...

And also,
1. Firmware : I have version V3.42.1.. Where can I get the newest version?
2. and whats APPMAN and what does it do?

Sorry for all the questions, especially if they've come up before, but I couldn't find any reference on the forum, I could be lazy also...

Cheers
Rob

Okay,
1. You need to get your arse to a Nokia Care Centre. They will take your phone off you for like a couple of hours, flash it and install the new firmware. Check other posts for details on firmware versions and relative (dis)advantages.
2. Appman is essential. Its like the 'task manager' in XP. It allows you to view memory usage, installed apps, running apps and allows you to kill frozen applications or games (shit happens).

The following programs you can probably get off www.aivanet.com, or for newer versions try IRC channels...
They're pretty handy. Here goes:
Fexplorer/SeleQ (file explorers, handy)
Appman
Sdoubler [you'll need this if you hv a crappy 32MB MMC like me :( ]
blzinstapp (used for installing ngage games)
Torch (always useful)
Psiloc Screensaver
ebook reader (readM)
Netfront 3.1 (good web browser, get it when Opera runs out. Netfront is free)
AgileMessenger (IM on ure mobile..)
SkyForce ( the one game you must have!)

That should keep you busy for a while. Fexplorer and Appman are must haves.

Hope that helps mate!

Speaking of programs ... does anyone know an application which can re-size photos on the phone?

One Mega Pixel pictures are pretty big, so re-sizing it from 1152x864 to 500x375 can help save some space, while I'm waiting for 256MB or 512MB RS-MMC prices to chill :D

Anarchist, thanks again for the help mate. Tzeonn, same too.

I'm the only person I know with a 6600 cos it's still only available SIM free here!!(in Ireland). It's not been approved by any of the Networks, so it won't work over WAP or GPRS. My o2 email works through it bizarrely enough though :-? And it's still €600 here too so I can't blame people for not buying it just yet.

Anyway, with all this in mind, I can't over-estimate how great a resource this forum is, nice one to all involved and keep up the great work :D :D

Dog gammit, not one person mentioned total ir. If it wasn't for total ir i'd have to train a monkey to change my tv for me (remote is broken), now that's what i call essential.

Damn thing won't work with my Hitachi tv so i hv to do it the old fashioned way.
"SOMEBODY CHANGE THE GODDAMN CHANNEL! ANYONE!"
its either tht or getting off my arse and doing it my self which is pretty damned unlikely.

Is there a new release out tht handles more types or hardware? i heard a version can control air conditioners...

All versions of Total ir can handle new layouts (I think they are .ccf file type) but i've tried about 5 different ones for my Teac hi-fi and none have worked, dunno about the air conditioners though.

Sadly I doubt it, nokia seem to be phazing out ir. Tis a shame. Maybe in a few years remote contols will use bluetooth anyway, then we'll really have fun.

Using electrical appliances with bluetooth will have a lot of confusion. And prank by some idiots!

If you have an appliance and remote with a paired connection and a restriction of only one BT connection at any given time, the data connection probably won't be disrupted by prankers and a new connection wouldn't be possible to appliance unless the the connecting device has the manufacturer's password.

BT seems like the future for small, wireless data transfers. Lets face it, IR pretty much sucks. Its unreliable and depends on too many factors like direction, humidity etc.
