elastomer damaged by cleaning?

This morning I had two 8210's, one working perfectly and another completely dead.

I'll leave out some details but I cleaned both the phones with IPA solvent - I know "if it aint broke...."

Now I have two phones working perfectly but with completely blank screens :-o have I damaged the elastomers?
