i Bought a 6600 for 250 pound sterling in feb some time. Then i saw the 7610 in the "Coming Soon" section of the nokia site and i really wanted it cus i always want the latest Gadget. every one says how they are rushing to pay near 400 pound for it and how good it is.
Until i get my hands on one and realise i would have paid all that cash for express on covers and a better camera!!!!
im glad my friend made this costly mistake and i didnt now ill wait till end of this year and get the 6630 which seems the only decent phone with the right improvements of the phone phone i already have. i can use it for 2G normal purposes and buy a "3" pay and go simcard with 3G for the broadband if i need it and wont cost me much at all. as for the new flip i wont bother with that either.
if you can think of any reasons why to spend 400 pounds on this 7610 please tell me
Thanks

I was thinking about buying a 7610 but i changed my mind after i knew the price in the stores, and nokia 6630 will be released at the forth quarter of 2004...but i will wait for the Symbain Flip-phone.
400 Pounds phone is not cheap...i would buy a PPC for 400 Pounds instead of 7610.
Well thats my reason for NOT buying a 7610.

My reason for buying the 7610 and selling the 6600:
The design is better
The shape of it has straight sides
It is significantly smaller than the 6600
The phone itself is more solid
Should you carelessly scratch your 7610, you can get a new X-Press On Cover
One Mega Pixel camera
10 Minutes Video Camera
LifeBlog
Well, based on my perspective - I dislike and hate the design of the 6630. I left the 6600 because of its "fatness", and I'm not going back there again. Not even the 6630 features impress me that much either ...
PS: How can 6630 can be the smallest Symbian phone, as stated on Nokia.com?

well for me, i still feel that the 6600 is more comfortable to hold in my big clumsy hands....
the 7610 feels a tad too stright....
Egors for 6600 is definately shaped to hold in your hand, whereas 7610 would be for design while not compromising on shape to an extend where its like 7600?? LOL!!
feature wise, i like the 10mins video recording, lesser lag as compared during playbacks of vids,
1mp cam? ehh... (nothing seems to beat gx32 currently comparing on 1mp camera) but heck, the gx32 is a disabled phone, no clalander notes no this no that, whole diffrent story.
buttons wise, u'd probrably get used to 6600 faster. but for the 7610 its a pain in the ass coz i keep having problem unlocking my keypad as the Star button is a little small and off the sides... i keep pressing 7 instead...
oh ya, the added mp3 support for ringtone is a plus plus plus for me as i mix my own mp3's..

are you sure it doesnt say smallest symbian 3G phone? coz theres a difference...
6600 also allows for mp3 ringtones
no it doesnt, but it supports wav and ogg files and thats just as good :D

:) i had the 6600, so im sure it doesnt play mp3 as ringtones.
and wav files after converting them, they sound a tad orrible.....
never got around to trying ogg though...
what u hear frm 6600 are usually wav or ogg. im sure u mistook them as mp3.
yes it can play mp3 after installing aftermarket mp3player, but thats all. not as ringtone :-P

The 6600 shows mp3 files in the ringtone list, BUT when you stay over one it says "wrong format" or something like this instead of playing.

well my fault in symbian is were is the upgrade from 3650-6600???
the looks and os (os making the phone slower!!!!!!)
6600-7610 changeable covers (well i had this with 3650), 10 min video recorder (well my 3650 i can record for several hours!!!) RS-MMC hard to find expensive and not many high capacity
the improvements i wanted were stereo, MP3 etc
i have these with N-GAGE!!!
ok the 6630 is coming but looks like an exagerated ugly 3650 but in my opinon is the true UPGRADE
in my opinion the USA has the best draw the 6620 being the most complete of the symbians!!
so im sticking with 3650 i think there is no reason to pay stupid money for 7610 when there is very very little difference

how very true leespud, 6630 is really the only upgraded phone for symbian. 7610 has a more aesthetic appeal from 6600 and 6630. 6620 is really good but alas! what a pity to launched it only in the us.
RSMMC is damn dumb (for now),.... faster? so? so what the big deal when the capacity is back to square one? a storage card purpose is to store things! thats why its called a storage card. dumb that phone and many devices nowadays are goin rsmmc.
@leespud, the 3650 and 7610 biggest difference being the colours. 65k colours being the decent of the entry for phones nowadays...4k colours lose out alot. i mean, thats my personal opinions.
6630 is kinda ugly but im getting it as it would then be the true upgrade from my 6600. thats the same reasons i use symbian phones rather than new cool-looking and sleek phones. and i thought design is impt but the functions is definitely more impt! (no matter how good looking the phone is, u will get bored of the design)

yeah 4k colors LCD suck, and BTW I still don't understand why they've left one in the QD. They really seem to be stupid.
I'd say it just rocks to view pictures on the 6600, and the resample algorithm for zoom/wallpaper is perfect!
Definitely 64k!
For me the 7610 is ugly, and I still find that the 6600 is the best looking one for current symbians. Personal things...
I'm very happy with mine, and that's a good thing as I'll have to keep it 2 years...

i think thats coz of some n-gage games only show the right colours on 4k screens. but nokia could of course have done something about it like filtering out the bad colours when launching a n-gage game.
u think 7610 is ugly?? i dont... i think 7510 comes on first place on design. then 6600 on a sure second. it looks really slick and professional. and i dissagree with those saying that 7650 had one of the best designs... well maybe 7650 on third... or qd maybe? i dunno. one of those

Well, the improvments from 6600 to 7610 are really too less! And no stereo! *lol* @ Nokia!
The best Symbian phone with Series60 is no Nokia!
It's the german SX1 by Siemens!! It has all the important things, you miss with 6600 and 7610: Stereo Radio, Stereo MP3, Hot-swap-MMC-Slot, small, light, good-looking, easy flashable, good cam (ok, only VGA - but who cares?) and it is very rarly seen and special, because all uninformed people out there buy nokia ;P (no offence plz)
Siemens is a member of the symbian trust and is also a player in the Series60 world! Underestimated by many people in the world :(
The only true danger for the SX1 is the still upcoming(?) SendoX and the 6630 in half a year...
By the way: SX1 is made in China! 8-)

a good reason to not get 7610 and 6630 they will not support n-gage games:/ (that`s just a thing for gamer`s ) a good reason to get them that i see is just for the megapixel cam`s! if i will change my phone will i go for 6630

Why are some people so narrow-minded? The Mega Pixel camera isn't the only "good thing" the 7610 or 6630 has. There are other features too.
Either I'm being too optimistic, or you guys are throwing the shit at me
But still, I have to respect every NFREE member's opinions ...
Oh, and for your information ... some N-Gage games work on 7610, including the latest Spiderman 2

7610 does NOT support Ngage-Games ????? Really?
@nk_au: Maybe you have green clothes, standing on a white snowfield and there is an enemy sniper 1000 m away? Or what do you mean with that interesting statement?

1. Nokia 7610 does support a few N-Gage games. Not all though
2. I'd say "What the f**k am I doing in this snowfield? It doesn't snow in my Australian city ..."

2. That's bad luck for that sniper! :P

Ok, from a less biased view (i do not own a 6600 or 7610). I had a 3650, still got my ngage, and i'm using a 6230.
6600: crap keypad, crap joystick (what the hell where they thinking with that one), good screen/camera, ugly soap bar design with thick hollow sides. And its slow as hell.
7610: has the d-pad! Camera quality looks alright. But keypad looks awkward, still has no hot swap mmc, and doesn't seem to be a major step up from the 6600, which itself wasn't a major step up.
The greatest step up was 7650 to 3650/3660. MMC being the key part and the better camera being the other main part.
As someone else said, looking beyond nokia is probably the best option.
I won't be going back to symbian until they release a phone with a d-pad, INBUILT mp3 player, decent battery life and reasonably sized. Wouldn't mind a flip. That new flip symbian from nokia is alright... but they put the bloody dpad and screen controls on the flip with the screen!
SHarp can design a proper flip phone why can't nokia?

the 6600 joystick is really good! not for gaming but for navigating... it loosens up a bit too fast tho. and how can u say the keypad sux? man... its the same keypad as any other phone! exept that its quite small and wider instead. i think ur too used to ur 3650 keypad lol. or maybe the big n-gage buttons.
about 7610 yeah the keypad looks kinda strange at first but it looks really cool too! and it stands out in the crowd. and who needs hot swap? u dont change mmc so often do u? 7610 compared to 6600... pretty much everything has been improved one step. u say 6600 wasnt a big improvement from 3650? um... n-gage games??? themes?? better camera? and much more ram. almost twice as much... + some other things.
yes, the mmc for 3650 was a big improvement from 7650 but 7650 also has some nice features that 3650 didnt have. not to mention 3650/60 has the worst design in the symbian history

All the ignorant people in the world says "the keypad on the 7610 is too crap and awkward".
But nk_au (that's me) and Michael from Mobile Burn Forums have the same thoughts on this:
The Keypad on the 7610 is actually really easy to use. It's better for left-handers because the buttons are closely jammed on the right side.
For a LH, you would bend your thumb for *, 7 and 0.
For a RH, you would bend your thumb for 6, 8, 9, 0, #
I love the keypad. It actually isn't that awkward.
Here's what Michael had to say:
The keypad that partly enables this transformation had given me cause for doubt when the 7610 was first announced. I mean, there was a lot of "here we go again" type thoughts running through my head. The 3650's circular keypad, while novel, had been a complete failure, and the swooping curves and asymmetric lines of the 7610's keypad had me wondering if somebody at Nokia was succumbing to a few too many fumes at the drawing board. Lucky for all of us, whether fume induced or not, the new keypad is actually very good. It has a great feel, and the layout actually works. In fact, I'd have to rate it as one of my favorite keypads ever. It is compact, but the curves seem to follow a natural path that my thumb, at least, seems to favor. Perhaps a left handed person might not agree, as surely as some other righties out there will disagree, but I think that most people are going to find the keypad enjoyable to use. There is one thing about it that irks me, though: there is no auto-lock feature. You'll have to resort to a 3rd party app for that function. The small directional-pad controller was not quite as good as the rest of the keypad. While it works accurately, it is a bit small and stiff. The surface of the controller could have done with a rubberized or textured coating. But after a short while it posed no obstacle at all. I simply got use to it.
