Changing series60 default icons

I need a programmer to help me....

I have learned how to change icons for programs with the program IconWizard wich is freeware here:

Changing icons is not very hard, just follow a few basic rules and it is done.

But now I want to start changing sistem icons, witch is not that easy, there was a guy (winboysxp) that made that already as a test last year, but his project was never finished, he left, however some system icons he made.

In order for a normal program icon to work it has to be created as an .aif and related to a certain program's UID.

To get that UID you must select an application with SeleQ and see the properties of the .app file:
Example: Open Seleq, go to ?:/system/apps/SeleQ and choose Seleq.app by File>Properties now move the cursor tabs three times to the right and see the UID3 (it has to be the 3rd, dont know why).

The software mentioned above asks for a few things:

- UID3
- Name for the folder where to install the icon (he creates a .sis file for you to install)
- Name of the icon on the menu
- Bitmap version in 42x29 and 44x44
- Name for the instaler

To change that icon now just install the .sis in the drive you have the program, if its in c: the icon must also be in c:.

To change system icons, however, is more dificult... The system programs are inside z: witch is impossible to write to.

What winboysxp did was to create some sord of "shortcuts" that call the real programs in z:

You have that shortcuts with the same program's name in e:, for example, with the new icon changed and it calls the program in z:

I have some examples left by winboysxp and would like to re-create the shortcuts for other programs, can anyone with symbian programming skills help me?

My ideia, if doable, is not only to create a new theme icon for those unfortunate series60 unthemed persons (n-gage, 3650, etc)... But also to create a program that can accept icons himself by changing the .aif file.

When You are making theme You are making ikons to all programs not only those that You wrote.

Its much easyer anf faster ;)

iconwizard creates only .aif file to change the icon we need 4 files the name.app, name.aif, name_caption.rsc, name.rsc. anyone knows how to create those files? (name stand for the appz name)

Yep, don't understand, file size always is 0 bytes.

And psiloc screen capture gives awful images.

just found out what the bug is..

when you press the call key it doesn't go to the dialled numbers, instead it directs itself to the log file, and when u receive an incoming sms and pressed "show" it goes to the messages menu instead of automattically going straight to the inbox.

there maybe other bugs but there no harm..its great to have a different icons.

Mike is hopefully working on that...just delete the folders of the programs that work bad.

They'r all in e:\system\apps\... and all end with the word FREAK.

1. copy the default .app that you like to change from Z: to E:, this makes E:\system\apps\xxx\xxx.app

2. use program SeleQ to change the properties of .app and set all attribute to "off" except hidden which should be "on" (or you can set all to "off", except system to "on", either one will do) *this part is real importance*

3. with the help of s60Iconwizard program, it will generate .aif file. Just put the file in E:\system\apps\xxx\xxx.aif

4. That's it. You may need to refresh the screen in order to get the new icon by switching to "List view" and back to "Grid view" again.

This work 100% since I've tested it myself

I've installed the new icons last night and I'll be removing them this night... :( just because of the messAge and log bug... :(

hopefully, they'll be fixed; if that isn't possible, why not release a different version that does not update the messages and log icons? those aren't the worst-looking icons...

Just go to the apps folder and delete the MceFreaks folder to remove the messages icon...

Delete the LogsFreaks folder to remove the Logs icon...

I think you don't need to be a programmer to change system icons. its very easy. You don't need to install System Icon Pack. its as easy as copying 2 files and making a folder(this is per 1 system icon). what Pou_Pee said is working perfectly!

Since I loved the messages and log icons, and I've recently deleted them so that no bug is found, I'll try to save those aif files and try that procedure to make those icons work with no bugs, cause I can't wait 4 the new version...

TWolf i tried icons, and must say its great. Only i noticed that when i get delivery report a phone application is started so i got two phone application in background (first 300kb and second 45 kb). When i go to that new phone aplication i got blank screen! When i erase just that icon i didnt have problem any more!

And one question. Why you didnt change IR and camera or v.recorder icons? And why u didnt change realone icon on this iconpack?

4 apps cant be changed., like the readme file said.
IR and camera icons are not changed because i dont have the uids.

the bug you found in the phone application is wierd, but i cant test it right now...i'll let you know something here when i check with mike.

I reinstal icons and still have the same problem with app. phone!

And about realone, with 0.3beta icon was changed i didnt notice any problem so it is weird that you didnt change it now.

I noticed that icon Service numbers in sim folder isnt changed. So i tought that maybe you wont to change that too in next version so i did a search.

Path is : Z:\System\Apps\Sdn

Sdn.aif
UID#3:101f4cf0

Name of icon is Serv.Nos. , and when i enter than it is changed to Service Numbers.

I dont know is this is relevant but i just whant to help!

sorry, i dont have that "service numbers" are you sure thats not from your operator?

I think when you have numbers from operator on sim than you have that icon, but when you dont than that folder is without that. But i am sure it is part of software because my phone is clean (not vodafone or something). Maybe U can include that and if someone dont have that numbers he can erase it with seleq or something. If it is problem I(we) can live without that because this project is huge!

service nos. is SIM based, so some persons have it while others don't. But its icon is definitely in the phone...
