jus to let u guys know about it.
no argues now that i have tested it.... :)
oh, bear in mind that the older version 3.something will NOT backup ur contacts.

Did anyone try to back up contacts through any explorer? (((For older versions 3))) DURING backup run any explorer and copy the file C:\System\Data\Contacts.cdb to E: and restore it in the same way, it works in my 3650, you can later delete the folder E:\backup
Because when you try to copy the file it tells that file in use, and the backup in MMCApp close all the apps that working, so during back up there is no running app ((except the phone app)) and the file is no more in use
The same way you can copy C:\System\Data\Logdbu.dat the file for logs and folder C:\System\Mail for mails
No argues now that I have tested it.... :)

Well, it did not work on my 6600 (with V3.xx). I can't even copy the contacts.cdb, the phone does not allow copying! :-?

it will definitely worked.
checkpoint no 1 : did u do the copy during the backup process?
checkpoint no 2 : is urs the later version of firmware? if yes, theres no need to do the backup of contacts and the newer version dun think can copy as u backup.
if all else fails, maybe u wanna try the rename method as i have discussed in my older post? leme noe again if ALL fails. prob, i can think of another method to help u.

no more words to say
Want to upgrade my 6600 firmware.
So I select extras , memory and then backup phone memory.
There’s about 32mb free on my MMC. But the backup will just stop halfway thru.
Any idea what I done wrong?

The Nokia 7610 (hehe ...) creates a backup of your contacts when you do a 'backup of a phone memory to memory card'

I think you are not doing anything wrong, maybe the problem from your phone (old firmware or you installed a lot of programs or some files are read only and can't be access, try to back up using pc suite for 6600 through computer it will work, I had a lot of problems when install programs from the phone the setup will close by itself, but using pc suite through computer fix the problems, and when you update the firmware maybe this will no occur any more

Hm, another thread on this.
Good opportunity to ask, does someone know where the T9 prefs/added words are stored? I don't see any explicit filename for this in the C: drive... That's the last important thing I don't know how to backup yet, and I'd like to give a try to V5.27 :-P

I assume that there is a hidden drive (or folder in C or D) or maybe a secret area that contain some information like the lock code, the warranty information (for 3650 3660), the T9 prefs/added, the date and the time, and maybe more things, this secret area will be deleted in the format 7370 not the *3green , because when we backup through MMC or PC suite (I prefer pc suite) all the files are saved and after the formatting the phone and restoring all the files the mentioned information will not be restored, I contact Nokia a long time ago, and they refuse to answer that and tell me to go to Club Nokia Service Point and they will help me, and not answer me.
So there is no file for T9

File for T9 dictionary on 3650 is C:\system\Data\T9UDB0f.DAT

try to delete and then to type one if your own words, or try to format the and restore only this file, you will see that is not the file it's only contain the names that you add to t9, but t9 doesn't use this file

Sorry, I didn't word my reply properly: The file I quoted is the one that holds the words that you add to the dictionary, and is not the entire dictionary!!
It is therefore the file that Kilrah wants to make sure (s)he backs up.
I'm not sure what you mean by "t9 doesn't use this file". T9 will first check against its own internal dictionary, and will then check against the words contained in the above-mentioned file.
Finally, I don't think you'll be able to simply create this file yourself because it is not in a simple text format; it has special characters within.

fisrt we don't want to create the file we want only to backup the file
second if you want the meaning of "t9 doesn't use this file" try to move the file you quoted to E if you afraid to delete it, and type a word from this file you add to t9 using t9, you will see that the word is still in t9

right click, rename, change to .txt?
if ur using win 98, u need to change folder settings to allow uppercase words and show full path in title bar.
