Hi to all,

I just recently bought a n3660. Kewl features. Just Love the features. Although i didn't like the bulkiness nor the 'odd' shape.....but who cares.... its got ultra-neat features.

(although, i still love ma n8250... I still consider that as 1 of the best.)

I've coupla queries:

1>. My provider(BSNL -India) doesn't support GPRS, but the cell shows the GPRS disconnected 'G-cut' symbol always, instead of the antenna symbol.

2>. Does the phone periodically try to check if GPRS is avail.?? and if this check is constant...... does this mean that it eats up battery power.

Some Settings Info on my phone:
I do NOT have any access points of any kind defined on my cell.
I have turned the GPRS Connection Settings option to "When Needed".
I have only 2 apps installed:
FExplorer (v1.11), Supplier:Unknown, 67 KB.
Ultra MP3 (v1.30), Supplier:Unknown, 617 KB.

It would be great if anybody could throw some light on ma queries(2 Nos.).

This forum is the best mobile forum, especially for Nokia cells. I've got loads of info from this forum and all of users are helpful... in fact very helpful.

I specifically think of 'SNMPWalker' and 'Mumbaifans' who can help me with the queries,as they are from India and have similar/same cells. Of course.......i wud love the inputs from anybody who has any idea on this.

Thanx a bullion!

PS: Dis is ma 1st post!!

I'm pretty sure it does eat battery power for it to be connected to GPRS "when available", but by what you describe, you don't have any control over it. Yeah that's wierd. I'd call Nokia or take it to a Nokia care center. Sounds like a software problem to me, considering your settings and the fact that your service doesn't provide it (which you might want to check on; I have t-mobile in the U.S. and I'm not supposed to have unlimited GPRS... but they screwed up and now I do, hehe). Hope you get it figured out.

Thnx balla(hope i can call u that)............ I guess i'll take it to NCC. Although I'm NOT sure they'll know the reason for this weird behaviour.

Does anybody have a similar issue??
or
Do every1, NOT having a GPRS service, have the cell to display the antenna icon, instead of the 'cut-G'??
(Hope you understood the 'or' part!)

Cud it have anything to do with the 2 s/ws i've installed and they trying to contact some web site/something...??

BTW balla: Congrats on the unlimited GPRS..... Enzoi...... :-D

Just noticed something:
The 'cut-G' symbol replaces the antenna symbol, only when i receive/send SMS. The symbol then remains 'cut-G'.

After a reboot, the antenna symbol remains till a SMS is send/rec'd.

My provider doesn't support MMS/e-mail, and i send/rec. only plain text msgs!

Any ideas??

Found a solution for the phone to display the antenna symbol instead of the 'cut-G'.

Define an access point with gprs as the access-medium.
then try connecting to any wap page. The phone displays a message saying that gprs is not available and to check with the provider!

The antenna symbol then remains thru'out.

Tnx 4 all u'r help, ppl
