Transparent Icons

I am trying to make some icons and the problem is there is a white boarder around the image (white being the colour of the background)
I tried to make it trasparent with irfanview but no luck. Can someone tell how to make a proper transparent icon please

Hi,

Just a thought but you have made a mask to go with the icon? If your using Nokia's Theme Studio to make a theme all the icons need to have a mask to hide the white around the outside of the icon.
Like below.

You maybe already have the mask and the colours of it, eg. black & white may be in the wrong places. If so just invert them, the black is the masking colour.

nah i aint makin a theme or usin theme studio i am using the s60 icon wizard and please explain whats the mask

A mask is a monochrome version of the icon pic. In the mask everything that is black will be solid on the icon and everything white will be transparent.

Hi,

If you look at the icon I have attached in my previous post, that will show you very well how to make an icon or what is required.

Basically you have the icon you want to see, above it's a Nokia 6600 with all the colours etc.
It also needs a mask, now the mask has to hide all that you do NOT want to see around the icon. In the case of above it's the white area all around the phone. In this case the surrounding area needs to be black and the area where the phone is has to be white.

Just look at the attached imaged coolice made...

the picture of the 6600 is the original picture and the black ang white image is tha mask...

By that you may know what a mask looks like and how it was made...

im gonna try and also the icons im trying to make has different shading around which makes it harder for me

Hey,

Post up one of the icons your trying to do and I and maybe a few others will turn it into an icon & mask for you to see what we mean.

It can be hard, especially if there is no white area around the sides. In this instance you just have to be creative and remove what you feel isn't needed.
