It seems that your phone saves the messages on the Sim instead of the internal memory or the mmc. Try Messages - Options - SIM messages and delete some of them there.
i expected that too but when i opened sim messages..it was empty

Hi, i got the same problem before, i'm not sure what caused it but i think a program that lets u connect the pc's internet to your phone through bluetooth. Anyway, what i did was to connect 7610 to pc suite using the dku cable and backed up the messages and contacts only.. don't include system files because its the reason y ur phone bugged down... then format your phone using the the three button reset, forgot the code, i think you have to press *, 3, and call button and hold while pressing the power key.. just search the forum for the buttons. It will format the whole system files... format using the restore factory setting and the code method *7370 or something like that won't work, it doesn't format everything. then after formatting, just restore all your phonebook and messages backups... too bad you won't be able to retrieve some of your installed programs though
