Hello guys,
2 days back my friend's mobile was stolen.
I had heard that if we know the IMEI number and report it to the concerned authority, they can block the Mobile phone. so, the theif cannot use it either!
Is this true guys? If yes.. then whom shud i contact? cause the cell phone operator says he cant do anything bout it.
my friend has all the mobile documents. Also the phone is in warranty period.
Please suggest.
Thanks.

by rite it should be the cell-phone operator who will have this service.. therefore they should have the means to do it...

but for places like singapore, this service is not offered. they dont go abt blocking stolen cell-phones. it is because such services costs the operator money and they claim it takes longer for the cell-phone to connect when making a call or something like tat.

therefore u should check if they actually offer a service like tat.

...on saturday my friend lost his phone, so he called the operator on sunday morning and they blocked the number...
...Today he recongnised that he gave it to his girlfriend and got it back...
...he called the operator and it works again, but he has to pay 18€... :D

Although it is not legal. People can Unblock mobile phones. They just reset the whole phone using a data cable, i think.

Please... don't be SO ignorant.... the network will block imei so you will not be able to log on the network anymore. anyway, here in italy, a phone locked with an operator can be still used with another sim from a different op. it sucks. Petros, you are talking about Unlocking instead of IMEI changing. Imei changing requires advanced equipment on newest mobile phones, and only a cable on older ones.
