Which one are you planning on getting and why?

Its a tough decision but I ended up choosing 6630. Why? Because of "video call" thing in 6630, thats the only reason why I liked it better than 3230.

i'll go for 3230. becoz it has a "mp3 player"(i hope so! its in the features list) im not sure weather 6630 uses software based mp3 player (like Real player, UltraMp3, etc) or it has a dedicated hardware for mp3 playing(like 5510,3300,6230 & N-Gage. I dont like the idea of software base mp3 player coz the sound is not Hi-Fi. Lets pray that 3230 has a Hi-Fi Mp3player coz until now N-Gage is the only symbian that has an Hi-Fi Mp3 Player. ;-) 6260 is very disappointing

U can't compare them since only 6630 is a 3G-phone. It should be compared to other 3G phones that run symbian.
3G phones are usually big mf phones. 6630 is small for a 3G phone, but not as slim as 3230.

I would go for 3230 since it has exactly the same features as 6630 plus radio function (guess the output will still be mono  )
Why not 7710?

Sony Eric, I realize that, but they are actually quite comparable phones. They have nearly identical feature lists, with the exception of the CDMA abilities of the 6630. My goal in this thread was to ascertain whether there were in fact any capabilities of the 6630 that caused it to shine over the 3230. What I'm seeing is that the CDMA and video calling are the two major differences. However both have EDGE, so i would think that even the 3230 could use video calling given a program or accessory to enable it. I guess my question should have been what would prompt you to spend 600 dollars for the 6630 rather than 350 for the 3230, but I wanted to rephrase that without sounding partial, thus the poll and "why" question. If that reason is CDMA or the wait for the 3230, then that's ur reason, but as of now "3G" doesn't afford the 6630 much of an advantage over the 3230. The 3230 can do everything the 6630 can save some bandwidth on EDGE and operation on the CDMA networks, and what I'm realizing is that that's all these 3G abilities amount to.

Pou_pee and Janjalani: both have stereo mp3 players. I've heard the 6630 mp3 player is software based but still good quality (just like your computer mp3 player is software based but sounds great). I would assume that the 3230 has the same player but can't promise it since the 6630 processor is said to be 220 mhz and no one knows the 3230 processor speed. Janjalani, want you to understand that a hardware decoder is only used in mp3 players because it's the most efficient way to have a dedicated mp3 player. However if you have a fast enough processor, a software decoder works just as well, e.g. on your computer.

Where has it been said that the 6630 will be 220Mhz? I've read nothing about any chips of this speed that could be used in a mobile.

smpballa240> Ok, I'm not sure which phone I would choose. 3G is almost "broadband" speed, but I hear that people have lots of problems with 3G-phones. But if I wanted a 3G-phone, 6630 would be the one to get. Or maybe the new UIQ-phone from Motorola.
I see now that Edge is quite fast too, at least 3xGPRS.

yuppo:
yeah that processor speed is no more than word on the street. Here's some instances tho:
"Series 60 devices all have an ARM processor, usually running at 104 MHz (Nokia 3650, 6600 etc.) or 123 MHz (Nokia 7610). However, the upcoming model 6630 will have an ARM processor running at 220 MHz - if the information is correct. I think it's reasonable - 3G features (video calls etc.) require a faster CPU so I don't think the screenshot is fake or anything."

"Einer der beiden Prozessoren hat anscheinend 200-220 MHZ, der andere weiß ich nicht genau. RAM hab ich noch keine Infos gefunden und das Tool mit dem ichs rausfinde hab ich auch noch nicht installiert. Aber botten tuts auf jeden Fall schneller als das 3650. Und vor allem fiel mir sofort die Geschwindigkeit auf - sozusagen der erste Eindruck für mich persönlich war eben dass es so schnell ging."

p900 cpu is 32-bit RISC ARM9 @ 156 MHz
6600 cpu is 32-bit RISC ARM9 @ 104 MHz
6630 cpu is 32-bit RISC ARM9 @ 220 MHz are sure???
very good..
about the RAM :
6600 have 8 MB (about 4 MB available)
6630 have 10 MB (about 6 MB available???)
now understand because who have try 6630 tell that it is very fast..."

Sweet, I was expecting yet another arm9 chip, Nokia must be finally getting through the billions they bought years ago.

In the Asian Region (with the exception of Japan), 3G technology has not yet been implemented at the mainstream level....some countries doesnt even have EDGE or PTT....it will take several years before it is offered and only "rich" business men and folks can afford to use this service....thus 6630 and 3230 are almost identical in terms of features.....
I notice that those who prefer the 6630 like its "advanced" features than the 3230...well we admit that the 6630 has superior build & 3G capabilities... but if its value for money...il pick the 3230...with a radio which i can use rather than a CDMA or 3G thingie but our country has no infrastructure to support
And when the time 3G or even PTT/EDGE is offered...by that time...the 6630 is almost an archaic phone

I have a 6630. But with many others, I'm getting impatient with the release of higher capacity DV RS-MMCs. News say that they will be released in early March. But that's too long! Some say 3230 will come out in Feb. If I found out that the 3230 supports ordinary RS-MMCs that operate in 3.2 or 3.3V then I'll gladly trade in my 6630 for a 3230 and buy a cheap 512mb standard RS-MMC. What can I do with a good phone if there's a memory limitation? After all, they have the same features except for 3G and stereo mp3(?) in 6630 and fm radio in 3230. But if 3230 uses DV RS-MMC as well, I'll still pick 6630 over it. Even though I can't utilize the 3G feature of 6630 because the networks here in my country don't support it yet, I know that someday they will do. I like the fm radio of 3230 but in my country you can't listen to it in public transportation for the fear of getting holdapped or robbed. And it will also drain your battery faster.

ei andrielle....i guess were both from the same country :D..my fear of owning a 6630 for one...is being mugged when commuting ... at least i wont contemplate that much on the money i spent for a stolen phone..kidding aside...the 6630 is a superior phone for now..but knowing the mobile phone crze in our country...the pace of change is too fast..:)

But at least when I'm inside a public vehicle, no one will know that I have a 6630 because I don't have a reason to get it out of my bag. I don't text or call or answer a call when I'm inside a public vehicle. So obviously I can't listen to the radio of the 3230 because I will have to get it out of my bag to plug in the headset, change stations and volume and etc. Because with that, holdappers will see that I have a 3230 with me. Get what I'm saying? And I always bring a cheap back-up phone so that when the holdappers ask for my phone, that's the one I will give to the holdapper. Good thing, getting mugged hasn't happened to me yet.

hehehe...yup got your point..my existing phone is a 6600...but i use a 3310 as a decoy phone when commuting...:D
well when the 3230 gets released here...il put it side by side with a 6630 before deciding with finality :D

I use the 6630 as a modem for my laptop and the speed shown on Network Connections in Windows XP is 460.8 KBPS
It's the best I've ever used.
The phone itself is great except the NAC I got from Vodafone wont unblock the phone. They said that Nokia are aware of this problem and are working on a solution. The lack of memory available is a drawback but DV RS-MMC's allow for huge savings in power which is a good thing in the long run.

6630 because I bought it :)
3230 isn't really that bad but, I don't why, it look too much like a business woman's phone.

The 6630 is the 1 i would buy. Even with it's problems that some owners have with it. Still it takes great pictures, that 6630.
