I'm having this problem with my Nokia 7650 that I can't seem to fix.

My phone just powers off automaticly when I receive a call or a message, or when I want to call myself. (this doesn't happen each time, +-50% of the times)
Not only does it power off, I can't reboot it anymore! When I start it up after that, it also powers off just after I entered my pin-code (if I leave it at the pin-code screen, it stays on all day...)
or when it has reached the mainscreen (with your background logo)
I just had to reboot it again to get it working, but recently the times I have to reboot it before I get it working has increased... now it's around 30tries.. which is mad.

Smacking my battery against my desk or the letting it drop on the floor seems to help.. maybe it's just the removing battery and putting it back in that does the trick, I don't know... it's stopped working tho recently, even when I smacked it, I still had to try a lot of times to get my phone up again.
And recently another issue arised: when booting the phone and getting to the startscreen (with the background logo) I get a warning that the battery is low and it shuts itself down. (not like the other automaticly power offs where the screen fades out tho) However.. the battery indicator was still showing ALL bars.

Trying to boot my phone with the adapter pluggin in didn't seem to work either, it stays the same.. A few times it even booted with the adapter plugged in but not 'recognizng' it, thus starting up as if there was no adapter connected...
I also 'formatted' my mobile, that didn't seem to work tho.. however, I was that stupid to install all the same apps again.. or is it impossible some application is causing this problem?
(all simple apps, ebookreader, some lil tools, a videotool, and Stacker which zipps the programs, maybe this is the one leading to this problem? :s doubt it tho)

I'm planning to buy a new battery, but it's not cheap, so I'd like to now for sure if it's my battery that's broken (it's an old battery) or if it's my phone :/

I really like my 7650 :P and I don't have the money to buy a new smartphone... please help me out! :)
And thanks in advance.

Hey,

I had a 7650 as my first Symbian phone and loved it, that phone is what started it all.

Anyway's to your question. Lithium Ion batterys by nature do not last long, they have a cycle life which is how many times you can charge them and dis-charge them before they no longer give good performance. As the 7650 is now a few years old, then I'm sure your battery if I am right and hasn't been changed is the same age.
The original Nokia batterys are expensive, good but expensive. I brought a slightly more powerful and cheaper battery for mine off Ebay a little over a year ago. They should still be there as it's very similar to the battery used in 3310's etc.
Best option is to try getting one of them for your phone. Some places even offer a desktop charging stand for the 7650 to go with it.
Try a search and see what you come up with, even if you do not go for one from the net you've seen whats available to you.

You also, if you haven't had it done, benefit from a firmware upgade at your nearest Nokia Service Centre. As the 7650 is probably out of warrenty now you may have to pay a small amount to have it done, but it's worth it. The first releases were a little buggy and later ones speeded the phone up and made it much nicer to use.

Coolice is right ebay is the place to go for a 3rd party battery. You'll find loads of them as it's the same battery thats in the 8210/8310s.
