Hello there :)

I hope i put this into the correct section - it is after all concerning two Symbian phones :)

After using a 3650 for a little while and now being able to convert movies in the correct way, i decided to get myself a MMC reader device, because transferring larger files via IR is a pain in the ass. So off i went and got this 6-in-1 reader/writer that connects to USB. Installation on my XP-SP2 machine was a breeze and the device seems to work perfectly, it has put me four new "drives with removable storage" into "My Computer" and each type of memory can be hot swapped with instantly being recognised.

Now i use only two of them, MMC and Memory Stick, so i placed shortcuts to those on my desktop. BTW two of the devices (6 in 1!) are shared, it is like MMC/SD and Compact Flash I/II.

So using it with mine standard MMC cards (one 16 MB and one 256 MB) works nicely. BUT when i put in my boyfriend's RS-MMC from the 6260, it is simply not recognised!

Now on the package of the device the RS-MMC is not only mentioned as supported, there's even a picture of one on the front and asking the vendor he said "yes of course, the only difference is the size" which i had already guessed, because i can put a RS in my 3650 with an adaptor and it works as well.

Now what might be the reason why that RS-MMC can't be detected by the reader? I can put it in and the red light goes on but when i click the icon, it shows "please insert a disk into drive I:" so obviously, the PC does not find the card.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Kindest regards.....

Thanh

I've heard through many forums that I participate in ... that people are experiencing the same problems as you.

Their RS-MMC attached to an adaptor won't be read by their Card Reader/Writers.

My ATP 512MB RS-MMC works on a ECS MMC Card Reader/Writer (some random Taiwanese brand)

What brand is the RS-MMC Thanh? If its a Nokia one, or a well-known brand ... maybe you want to try another Card Reader/Writer?

I don't know why it won't read the RS, but it happens (for some unknown reason, yet to be discovered)

EDIT: Two types are RS-MMC at 3V and DV RS-MMC 1.3V&3V (thus the name Dual Voltage)

Hello :)

Thank you both for the quick reply :)

The RS-MMC in question is a original Nokia 32 MB version that was supplied with the 6260. I don't know what voltage it runs with but when i put it in my 3560 with an adaptor, it works in there as well.

About "another reader", well that is a process of trial-and-error... there are virtually thousands of different models available, and each of them cost money. I have no way of being able to afford buying a whole bunch of them, since here the shops won't take a product back and pay back the money, instead they only swap with another one of the same device.

And on the package of my particular reader model (also some random taiwanese product, named only "6-in-1 USB Card Reader/Writer") it states clearly that RS-MMC is supported! So it seems to be a matter of finding a RS-MMC that will work with it.... yet another trial-and-error search :)

Why does Nokia related stuff always need to be difficult.... is there a way to backup an entire MMC via IR? Any application to be installed on the phone to get such job done..?

Kind regards.....

personally i see no point in RS-MMC i hate them in fact, sure they have there benifts, but they are greatly outweighted by compatablity problems and other issues, MMC are extremely versatil so whats they point in the alkward RS-MMCs :P

THis makes me very angry, :x

lol :-)
