6630 mmc 512 ?

Hi guys Newbie here,just needed your expert advise,I have a Nokia 6630 and have purchased a 512 replacement memory card,I have checked and double checked that it is the correct type,which it is,but when it is inserted,it tells me it has no card inserted,I figured it may need to be formatted or something,but as it cant be seen I cant format it,I have checked a few sites and cant see any max size limits or anything,is there software I can use to help?,
You guys should be able to help,any advice would be appreciated

this is cause the 6630 doesn't support normal rs-mmc (that work from 2.7 to 3.6) it supports dvrs-mmc (dual voltage rs-mmc 1.8 ) try this (http://nokiafree.org/forums/t71574/h/s.html)

Thanks,yeah just read them,how annoying,there is nothing I have found that tells me that on nokia site,surely they should tell you that !,gutted bought 2 brand new for me and other half,in fact I got them through a link from a nokia 6630 page(not Nokia owned) for memory cards,and double checked what it was called on nokia site rs mmc,what else do the expect you to know?

It is there in the specifications, but they do not mention it when they just talk about the phone using rs mmc's.

I looked through the 6630 pages and never saw it, only the rs mmc part so I did indeed by a 512mb card to use in my 6600 until the 6630 was released.
Then along with everyone else found out about the DV part, then when you go looking further you find the information on the Nokia site.

As you say it's just a shame it isn't a little more obvious, or were they hiding it as best they can maybe?! Either way we're stuck now until hands are pulled out of pockets and more cards are released.

here's why they can do it:

Nokia says specifically they don't support any cards except their own. So they get by with leaving us in the dark on the whole dual voltage thing. smart for nokia, bad for us. samsung is supposed to bring out dvrsmmc soon, so just keep your eyes peeled.

The ones he is selling are the excact same ones I bought,except mine was 512,same make,packing and lables except that,cant see anything about it being dual voltage,be careful

A load of bollocks I'm afraid, there aren't any DV RS-MMC cards in the retail channel as of yet.

Apparently the Pretec ones (www.pretec.com) conform to the MMC 4 standard and work at 1.8v as confirmed by their tech support department, but good luck finding them for sale in the UK.

Can be ordered off their website however, $60 for a 256MB card. I aint taking the chance though ;)

My mate in Nokia said that Samsung were leading the way in the development of Dual Voltage-Reduced Size-MMCs (DV-RS-MMC)
He is certain that they currently plan to release only 256Mb, 128Mb, 64Mb and 32Mb cards. It is therefore unlikely that any other manufacturer will have higer density cards available anytime soon.

By the way, it clearly states in the user manual that the 6630 uses dual voltage cards so anyone complaining about buying an unsuitable card has only themselves and the retailer to blame.

I can't believe I'm sticking up for Nokia! :o :grin:

Unfortunately the Pretec are not yet compatable, I asked one supplier who mailed them directly and was told no.

Yes but then again if I type pretty much anything into an Ebay search box I will get a resut.... the thing is do you trust he seller? if so then buy one worse case is it willl not work.

128 are on a few sites now and Kingmax now make them up to 256... seeing that theres little difference between normal RSMMC other than the voltage then the DV technology will catch up quickly.

Technically Dual Voltage compliance is only an optional requirement for cards to be considered MMC+ complaiant but a nessasary requirment for MMCMobile so if the cards are MMC+ compliant its possible they may have DV requirments.
