I just downloaded ControlFreak for my 6630, and lo and behold it needs a Bluetooth serial port to work.

However, the WIDCOMM software that came with my Bluetooth adapter tells me that the 6630 does not support the Bluetooth serial port profile.

Having had a quick look on the net it does seem to be the case.

WHY??!? No laptop connections, no peripherals, no support for stuff like ControlFreak... in a supposed high-end phone. Ridiculous.

However, I did find this page: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31338 in which a few people reported getting Bluetooth GPS boxes working with the 6630, which use the serial profile.

So, what's going on? Is it to do with the WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack I'm using? Or have Nokia engineers been sniffing too much ketamine the last year?

I had the same problem. When my pc searches for BT services available on my 6630, it says that the bluetooth serial port is not supported. May I ask what version or bluetooth stack of WIDCOMM you are currently using? Mine is 1.3.2.7. And when I read the user's guide of Nokia PC Suite, I found out this (copied from the user's guide):

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

For access from the PC to devices that use Bluetooth wireless technology, your PC needs Bluetooth wireless technology equipment with ONE of the following Bluetooth stacks:
• Digianswer Bluetooth Software Suite
• Microsoft Windows XP Bluetooth
• WIDCOMM Bluetooth for Windows (BTW 1.4.x, BTW 3.x.x.x)
• Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for Windows XP/2000

TROUBLESHOOTING

I have problems connecting WIDCOMM Bluetooth for Windows to Nokia PC Suite.
If WIDCOMM Bluetooth for Windows is not visible in Nokia Connection Manager, check the
WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack version. Versions 1.4.x and 3.x.x.x are supported.
You can check the stack version in the following ways:
• From the Bluetooth tray application. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the Windows tray
and select Advanced configuration. On the General page you can see the version of the
stack.
• From the windows registry under the key HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Install. There is the
value named VERSION and it is the current version of the Bluetooth stack installed in
your PC.

I think this is why I keep having that problem, it's because the bluetooth stack I'm using is not supported by the PC Suite that came with 6630. But if you're using the stack that is being supported, I don't know what would the cause of your problem be. Right now, I'm trying to look for bluetooth stack 1.4.x or 3.x.x.x so that I will know if that will solve the problem.

My stack is version 1.4.2.10.

I've since found out that the 7610, 6670 and 6630 all do not have the bluetooth serial port profile implemented.

The actual phone and operating system is still capable of setting up a bluetooth serial port, but for it to work an application has to be installed which initiates the serial connection. I.e. it's not supported natively anymore.

Apparently it was at the request of network operators that were getting a bit pissed off with people using their DSL connections on their phones instead of paying for GPRS.
