View Full Version : serial connection for 6260?

Hello :)
Having my bluetooth almost working, i can now still not send files from the 6260 to the PC. With the 3650 i bypass the unwilling Billionton software with Desktop File Manager from Symbianware, but on the 6260 i can not use that because a serial BT connection is required.
The 6260 does not offer this "service".
Is there a way to activate this "service" on the 6260? Because it is also required for GNUbox internet sharing.........
Kind regards.....

Hi there :)
Please check your e-mail. I am not online 24/7 because nobody pays my internet fees.
I still don't have the balloon problem out of the way, Billionton insists it is a problem with my phone settings, which is crap. Maybe someone else is using Billionton's software and can confirm if:
When you send a file from phone to PC via BT, using that software (NOT PC Suite!), is there a balloon or popup coming that tells you of the incoming file and invites you to click "OK" or similar??
Because my phone goes to "sending data" and the PC signals incoming connection (BT icon changes colour from white-blue to green-blue) but no popup, hence i can not actually accept the file and therefor the phone says "sending data" for ever untill i cancel.
It works fine via PC Suite and Desktop file manager, so the dongle is fine too.
And... any news about the trick to connect the 6260?
Kind regards......

Hello.....
I am pissed as well. I have posted about this problem in the forum at Billionton's website, twice they (Billionton) insisted that i am too stupid to set my phone! They just won't admit the fact that they got a major bug in their software (the not-showing balloons). Since i mentioned the word "bug" in my last post, there have been no replies from their staff anymore.
Hopefully we will find a way around it......
Kind regards.....

Why do you need the serial port profile for transfering files? S60 phones use the OBEX profile for that. Just pair the PC and phone and transfer away.
Unless your Bluetooth dongle or software is dodgy and is for whatever reason trying to use the serial port profile for file transfer.
However, as far as I am aware, Billionton dongles use the standard WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack software that comes with most PC adapters, including mine. And I've never had a problem with transfering files to and from my 6630 (which also doesn't have a native serial port profile).

Hi there :)
Yeah i can use that OBEX as well - to send files from the PC to the phone! But because of a bug in either WIDCOMM's driver or the acompanying BILLIONTON software, i can NOT send files from phone to PC!
So i need a software to handle that, such as PC Suite or Desktop File Manager. And both those require the serial connection, which the 6260 doesn't offer.

What happens when you try to send files from phone to PC?
And exactly what is the "accompanying Billionsoft software"? Have you tried uninstalling everything (including the WIDCOMM stack), and downloading and installing just the latest stack from the Billionton website? You don't need anything other than the Bluetooth stack software.

Hi there :)
As i already mentioned, when i try to send a file from the phone to the PC, there is supposed to be a balloon coming out of the taskbar (like the ones that Windows produces all the time) which notifies me of incoming file. In that balloon, i should click "OK" or something like that. Yet that balloon does not appear. The phone and the PCV pair automatically, then the phone starts sending ("sending data") and the BT icon in the taskbar changes from blue-white to blue-green, clearly showing that a connection is established. Yet because of the non-showing balloon, i can not accept the incoming file, therefor the transfer won't happen.
I have no idea what the "Stack" is, but i run the latest available driver from Billionton (which is actually a WIDCOMM driver), version 4.2.11 and also the software that came with it (i guess that's the "stack", that software package which puts the "My Bluetooth Places" and all that on the PC, where the driver itself is only two rather small "inf" files). Anyway, the CD which i got with the dongle contains the software version that is the "latest" on Billionton's website.
And yes, i HAVE tried uninstalling, re-installing, rebooting, un-uninstalling, crashing, going crazy, yelling at the PC and making-boyfriend-angry-by-spending-allnight-infront-ofPC MANY times already.
Kind regards.....

When I want to send a file from the phone to the pc, I have to right click on my bluetooth icon in the taskbar, then select "recieve a file" first.

Thanh, the term "Bluetooth stack" refers to the drivers and software to enable a Bluetooth adapter to work with your operating system. The WIDCOMM stack is the most widely used.
I think your computer IS receiving the files sent from your phone. Received files are stored in My Documents\Bluetooth Exchange Folder. I'm using the WIDCOMM stack version 1.4.2.10 (1 earlier than yours), and when sending a file from phone to PC, it just gets transfered to that folder with no balloons or popups or anything. Have a look in My Documents\Bluetooth Exchange Folder and you should see your files there.

Hello :)
@Johnboyrover
That i had as well as long as i used the original Windows XP SP-2 bluetooth driver. With it i could receive files (sending from phone to PC) by using that "receive files", but i could not send from PC to phone.
Using the WIDCOMM thing it's the other way round (and better, because i mainly send SIS files from PC to phone anyway) but of course it would be nice if it would work as it should.
@fannypad
Yes, you are using an older version, that most likely doesn't show such balloon. Yet i found (use google, search term "Billionton balloon" w/o the quote marks, if you don't believe me) that a hell of a lot of people have the very same problem, either using YOUR driver version and having error messages, regarding the balloon thing (the software can't find a DLL that is responsible for those balloons) or using MY driver version and being unable to send files from phone to PC or pair the devices in first place, since the balloons don't show up.
By the way i have set the folder to which received files are stored changed to f:/bt transfers but even when i used the original folder which you mentioned, the file is never received. The phone keeps displaying "sending data" without ever advancing untill i cancel it on the phone, while the BT icon stays blue-green yet no file comes in. For sure there has to be a balloon asking like "Accept incoming file transfer, click "OK"..... the manual, submitted on the driver CD, mentiones such ballon yet says only "... click in the balloon to accept."
Kind regards.....

Hi. The following is my "contact" with Billionton's customer "service" via their forum. Instead of helping, they waste a great deal of time blaming ME for the fault in their software, accusing me of being too stupid to set my phone and making sure i got the correct driver installed! Read on.....
Thanh-BKK Posted - 2005 / 1 / 20 21:16 Show Profile Edit MessageHello :)
I went thru a real odyssey getting my new Billionton USB-Bluetooth dongle installed on my XP-SP2 machine. Finally i got most of it working.
My computer runs Windows XP professional, SP2
Driver version is 1.4.2.11 (on CD!) but recognised as 1.4.2.8 in Windows's device manager
Correct device is installed (Billionton USB Bluetooth Device) as only device, no more XP generic (found manual on internet).
I try to connect a Nokia 3650 and a Nokia 6260 to my PC using the device. Could not pair them - according to the supplied PDF on the driver CD a balloon should come out that has to be clicked in order to pair the devices. That balloon don't come.
I managed to get them paired tough, it cost me more than 15 hours accumulated untill now, and now i have both phones authorized with the PC and can use all services via "My Bluetooth Places" and also all functions of Nokia PC Suite for 3650 are usable. I can also send files from PC to phone by just using the "Send to -> Bluetooth -> 3650 or 6260".
But i can NOT send any file from phone to PC! The respective phone will pair (automatically) and display then "Sending data" and the bluetooth icon will change colours from blue-white to blue-green, indicating a connection. Also the LED in the dongle will signal such transfer. But again, i would expect a balloon or other popup informing me of incoming file and asking me to click "OK" or similar - yet that doesn't happen. Again, a missing balloon. So the phone displays "sending data" for aver while the computer waits for my input to accept the file, yet doesn't offer me a way to do that.
OTHER balloons will come out! For example the one for the bluetooth LAN connection (if i have that enabled).
Please help me. I am fed up needing PC Suite and it's lengthy connection procedure and click-orgy just to get pictures from the phone to the PC, while on top of that the other phone (6260) isn't even supported and a newer PC Suite version won't run on my PC due to bugs in it.
Kind regards.....
Thanh
support1 Posted - 2005 / 1 / 21 11:4 Show Profile Edit MessageDear Sir:
Please check the phone setting about Bluetooth :
1.Disable the function of "Hide the name".
2.Reboot the cellphone.
the Bletooth function will work fine.
For the PC suit , you sould set the communicate port as the port in the my bluetooth places, because the application work with bluetooth via the bluetooth serial port.
Thanh-BKK Posted - 2005 / 1 / 21 19:51 Show Profile Edit MessageHello :)
Thank you for reply.
However there is no such function in my cell phone. It is a Nokia 3650, Serie 60 / Symbian phone. In the bluetooth menu, i have the following options:
"Bluetooth" (ON or OFF)
"My Phone's Visibility" (HIDE or SHOWN TO ALL, always set to "SHOWN TO ALL")
"My Bluetooth Name" (Thanh)
I believe you refer to the "My Phone's Visibility" option. It is always set to "Shown to all" so that my boyfriend's phone, the 6260, can easily detect it and auto-pair with it. I never set it otherwise. Still the balloons or popups in the Billionton software don't appear.
Is there any other option?
And PC Suite does work fine, it is just difficult to use. I want to send a file directly to the PC from the phone, without needing to activate PC Suite. This seems to work, just that a notification which the computer should (and wants to) display (balloon or popup, informing of incoming file transfer) does not happen.
Kind regards.....

Please reboot the cellphone after change the settings.
Thanh-BKK Posted - 2005 / 1 / 24 18:55 Show Profile Edit MessageDear Admin.
Please admitt it: There is a bug in the Billionton software! I reboot my cellphone multiple times per day, and i never change the BT settings on it. I do know hopw to use my phone.
The bug in the software is that there is no notification of incoming file transfer. There is supposed to be a message (popup or balloon) as mentioned in the PDF manual. The message does NOT appear, and that is a bug.
Therefor, the computer notices the incoming file, yet i have no chance to accept it because the "click OK" does not appear. How am i supposed to allow incoming files when there is nowhere to click "OK"..???
I can pair the devices, i can send files from PC to phone, and i can use ALL functionsd from within PC Suite.
What i want is a direct file transfer from phone to PC without needing to use PC Suite. Billionton's Software is supposed to handle that, yet it is a BUG that the required (and in the manual mentioned!) Balloon doesn't come.
This happens with TWO phones, by the way, a 3650 and a 6260. I know the settings of my phones, it is definitely not the phone's fault.
Please tell me how to get hold of older version of Billionton software, i want to give it a try.
Regards
Thanh
Thanh-BKK Posted - 2005 / 1 / 29 23:15 Show Profile Edit MessageDear Admin.
I am sorry to say so, but for a product of seemingly high built quality (and comparative high price too!) the service from Billionton SUCKS.
I still can not use my device the way it should be, and haven't received an answer to the most simple of questions:
"Where can i download an older version of your driver"
I will try to have my Billionton device refunded since the level of customer support is ZERO.

support1 Posted - 2005 / 1 / 31 9:57 Show Profile Edit MessageDear Sir:
Please read the past topics our posted, the Bluetooth will get error while the O/S was Windows XP-SP2, you should solve the source of the error -- Bluetooth driver by change it MANUALLY!
Thanh-BKK Posted - 2005 / 2 / 1 19:28 Show Profile Edit MessageDear Support.
With all due respect, YOU are the one who needs to read! Because i stated VERY clearly: I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED DRIVERS MANUALLY. CORRECT DRIVER INSTALLED BILLIONTON USB BLUETOOTH DEVICE.
Don't try to find the wrong in me. I did what i can do, which is making sure the correct driver is installed (IS!), the software is correctly installed (IS!) and tyhe phone is set correctly (IS ALSO!). Yet it still doesn't work, and that is because you got a BUG in your software!
See it, admit to it!!!
I lost two weeks already trying to get help from you!! Yet - nothing! Instead you try to blame me, your CUSTOMER, for your faults??
No thanks, Billionton. Never again.
bye bye
