About Box Serials and such

Thus far, I have unlocked a 1100 and a 7600. In both instances I found that I had to meddle with the box serial number. Not being one who would just take things as they are, I would like to know what the exact nature of the box serial is. Is it an actual serial number found on the original box of the phone? If not, then what is it?

No the boxserial is a special code nokia implement into the phone to stop us from being able to unlock and therefore can only be read in a flash file for the actual phone.
