come on anyone??

I decided to see if the actual memory card was the problem so i switched my one with a m8s and when i connected my n gage with my m8's memory card in to the pc the pc picked it up. Maybe this will help with solving the problem. I also remembered before this problem occured i had connected the n gage to my m8's pc and then downloaded some games to install on the device. I read the instructions on how to install the games and it said that a memory card format was needed to install them, so i went to the removable drive in my computer and formated it, i then accessed it on my phone and it said it was corrupted i figuered that the pc's format method could not be detected by the n gage so i reformated it with the n gage and it could pick it up but since then the pc will not detect it.

sorry for the long winded explanation

argh!!!

the problem is with the format, NV format ur mmc on ur pc! unless u know how to.

try going to irc or look for an app called mmc medic. use it and let us know if it works for u. u need to find a way to format the mmc, in the correct FAT format. (i forgot which)

or, u could try looking for, say a digicam and format ur mmc in it. good luck!

Hi there :)

I have myself formatted my own and my boyfriend's MMC, as well as several from friends, on the reader device on my PC. It can be done without any problem, BUT - be aware what you format it to!

Naturally the PC gives you the choice of format. You got FAT, FAT 32 and eventually even FAT 12 and FAT 16. At least my PC does NOT let me format it to NTFS, yours may give that choice as well.

However, if using the PC, FORMAT ONLY TO FAT! Not 16, not 32, just FAT.

Yet STILL it may be possible that your phone won't detect the MMC after that - that is because the system folders on MMC are missing. But now at least it won't be corrupted anymore, and you can format it again with the phone. Which does nothing actually but put the required system folders on it.

My tip: Once you got all your apps installed and everything works the way it should, take the MMC and back it up on the PC! Do the following (and it is important to do that step by step!)

Insert MMC into reader.
Open it.
On top of the window, go to "Tools", then "folder Options", then "View".
In the menu, check "Show hidden files and folders" AND uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" (VERY important that last one!!)
Click OK in the warning window that opens.
Then click "ok" again in the window, which should now disappear.
Now go back to your MMC folder, you will see some more folders/files now, which are pale coloured. Those are hidden/system files.
On top of the window, go to "edit", then "select all".
Right-click any of the now higlighted folders/files, select "copy"
Open your desired destination of the backup (drive c, d, where ever).
Right-click in empty space, select "Create new"-> "Folder".
Name it whatever you like ("MMC backup" for example).
Open that new folder.
Right-click, select "Paste".
Now all MMC content (inclusive all system files!) is copied to your backup folder.

Now, next time you got a MMC problem, simply format it in the PC (again, use FAT only!) and then copy everything from your Backup folder back onto it. You will find it working right away when you put it back into the phone.

As with every backup, the more often you backup, the more actual your backup will be - i, being a heavy user of the phone's camera (6600), backup my MMC every few days.

Also, MMC's do get fragmented! This is visible by the phone becoming slower and slower in accessing anything on the MMC or frequently crashing. I found that Window's XP's disk defragmenter does an excellent job on MMC's too!

Just put the MMC in the reader, and run the defragmenter on it (start->all programs->accessories->system tools->disk defragmenter).

With kind regards....

your Thanh

Thnx a lot for the help everyone but i think u dont understand the problem. The actual problem is not that my phone wont detect my memory card its that when i connect my n gage to my pc via usb cable the pc wont pick it up any more, Before the pc would detect it as a local diska and i could access it. but now it just wond detect it, and that has hapened since i formated the mmc on the pc. Then when i went on my phone it said it was corrupted so i formated it with my phone and then my phone could pick it up. But after that my pc would not detect it via usb cable.

i switched my mmc with a m8s and when i connected my n gage with my m8's mmc card in to the pc the pc picked it up. So obviously the card is da problem what can i do?
