7610 strange problem

Hi all, new to your forums so please be gentle :D

Got a problem with my phone. O2 contract (I know its under warranty but if I can find a quick fix it'll save it going away)

3 month old 7610 (was) in perfect working order.

Went to work today, phone was on. Looked at the phone at 2pm and the phone lock was on. I am unable to unlock the phone via the keypad. (pressing the unlock btn and *)

If I take the sim out and boot the phone the * btn works, if the sim is in the phone and i press the "unlock" btn it says press * but the phone doesnt unlock and says "press unlock and then *"

It seems to me (being a layman an all) that the phone is not registering the combination of keypress's. Could this be a Symbian problem.

I have thought of trying the unlock codes but the # button isnt displaying # when pressed, the * button works and so do some but not all of the numbers before it says insert sim again.

The main problem at the moment aside from the phone not unlocking is that I am unable to access my phone numbers as when connecting to the PC suite it detects the phone but I cant gain access to the numbers, and the numbers were not saved to Sim, Phone only :-(

Any help would be greatly appreaciated, if this has been posted in the wrong forum would a Mod please move it.

Did u tried to boot up phone in safe mode with mmc out!?

could it be the buttons are faulty, or its a firmware error? try another sim card?

about the contacts, u can save to sim, look around the options when u point to a num for that.

Buttons are not faulty as far as I can tell, im unable to save the contacts to the sim because the phone is unable to be unlocked, so im unable to browse the menu's

Dont know how to do that Apocalypso, I know how to take the MMC card out but as for booting in safemode????

Any update on this thread? I have the same problem with a Nokia 7610, I tried all solutions with no luck. Also changed the SIM, still the same :(

Any idea?
