I've got myself a Nokia 6680 on 3. I tried to visit www.google.com but it reported that the service was unavailable. I phoned 3 and they informed me that I can only view 3 internet content via their network.

Before I send it back (as I love the phone) I wondered if anyone has any suggestions about getting around this?

TIA,
ZeBadger

Hey,

Of course it is rumoured 3 are going to be dropping the "walled garden" very soon. But as to what is the actual date I cannot say as I do not know.

At the end of the day you cannot complain to much aboout 3, just look at their tarif price's for what you get compared to the others.

They'll be even better once they do as has been mentioned above.

I appreciate what you say about price, coz it's a really good deal, £15 per month for 11 months then £30 for the last month (although this is done through some voucher scheme).

I have sent 3 an e-mail asking them when the de-walling is happening.
If I dont get a response by Monday it will be sent back.

Full internet access is very important to me. I use PuTTY SSH and Agile Messenger a lot.

I'm thinking that I could still use my old phone with a PAYG simcard from another network for those other apps.

Can you get GPRS services on PAYG? Any recommendations?

One more thing.... what do you mean £115 to unlock the phone? Can't we just type +pw01234# etc?

I joined three knowing that the net usage would be restricted because I could get a 6680 for free which wasn't even availble on other networks at the time and because they give you so many free minutes. I used agile messenger loads when I was with O2, but who needs an instant messenger when you can just call the person instead? I know that there is much more to wap usage than just agile messenger and I have got pissed off a couple of times beacuse I've wanted to access wap sites outside of 3, but nevermind. If they do take out the restrictions is will be a top network. I was with O2 for 2 years and only had to call them once, so if I only have to call up 3 once, I'm a happy man.

No, it's not that simple. If you check out the other threads, you will see that the 6680 and 6630 use a different algo which noone has fully cracked yet.

Yeah, thats a fair point, but part of having a decent phone first is to piss off all your mates who have just bought an inferior phone. It all depends on what aspects of having a contract are most important to you.
