Upgrading Memory Card

I've run out of room on my 256MB memory card, I'm wondering if I can buy a bigger one and just copy the files from the old onto the new to save from having to reinstall all my prorams?
Also, will my phone (6600) run slower with larger memory card?

it shouldnt run slower, may take a slightly bit longe rtime to read whats on the card when you view it with a file explorer but other than that, it should run as normal
