hi there that phone is lock with trackfone even you can unlock that you cant use it on verizon it needs to get flash , trackfone software is instaled so it wont work with yr network , its better to get a new phone than spend time trying to get that work with yr carrier

Since I am an exclusive for Cingular now, I dont sell any of the other pre-paid services; but I thought trackfone was GSM? Does anyone out there have a definitive list of USA Pre paid services and what actual service they use? Obviously T-Mobile is GSM and I think Virgin uses the Sprint network, CDMA, but what about NET10,BOOST, and the others? Thanx.

I don't know if this will work for you or not,(you might need some units left on your phone though) but if you dial *228 and press sendit should bring a Verizon Programming thing and then if you press 1 it will program it for Verizon, i did it one time just to see if would or not.

Tracfone mostly buys airtime from cingular (GSM, TDMA) Virgin Mobile uses Sprint service (CDMA) Net 10 is owned by tracfone but strictly uses GSM. And finally Boost uses nextel (IDEN)

Tracfone may use phones over CDMA TDMA and GSM. The Nokia 2285 works on CDMA Technology, like verizon. So first at all, you have to flash the phone, because the software on tracfone and net10 phones is diferent than verizon phones, and also you have to unlock it o disable the SPC.
Greetings.

Older Tracfones are cdma/tdma but the newer phones do use GSM, however they have the airtank software which needs to wiped before it can be used as a conventional GSM phone
T Mobile has always been GSM, before TMobile bought them outh they were known as Voicestream previous to that Omnipoint
Boost uses IDEN on Nextels network however Boost mobile phones are heavily subsidised(cost wise) thus they are SIM locked to Boost Mobile, apparently you need a ?codeplug? to unlock them
I think that Net10 is GSM and is a similiar deal as Tracfone!

I've recently picked up a used Nokia 1100b which was previously used as a tracfone. I successfully unlocked and have my T-mobile (regular, not prepaid account) SIM in and everything works.
It still says "TracFone" on the main display even though I'm connected to a T-mobile tower, and I see a unit countdown when I make calls. Is there any way to get that off the screen?
And more importantly if it gets to 0 units is it going to lock me out of making calls despite the fact I'm using it on my "regular" t-mobile plan, or is that some kind of stand-alone counter inside the phone which doesn't do anything?
How would I go about flashing the software, probably requires special cables, etc?

......Net 10 is owned by Tracfone company, and runs completely on a gsm service
......tracfone is either cdma and gsm services depending on what model of phone (phones with a sim card are gsm, with out a sim card are cdma)
......t-mobile gsm
......cingular gsm
......Boost- as was said nextell service (and if you find a boost phone older then a year old you can use netell sim in it)
......verizon- cdma
......virgin mobile- cdma (sprint)
......simple freedom- cdma (altell)
price's--------- in USA dollars
......boost mobile-- .20 min mon-fri 7am-9pm* .10 min nights weekends* 1.00 a day 2-way (unlimited)*.20 mobile web* no roaming charges
......net10--- .10 min always no roaming charges
......tracfone .40min to .12 min depending on the card you buy (gsm no raoming charges- cdma 2min for every 1)
......Virgin Mobile- .25 first 10 min a day .10 min after (.35 a day charge .10 always)no roaming charges
.....cingular- .25 min (1.00 day charge .10 min free mobile 2 mobile) no roaming charges
.....t-mobile- .30 min to .10 min depending on card you buy (little known fact if you buy $100 in air time you get one year service and 1000 min, then next year for those who use very little time can carry another year service for only 10 dollars)no roaming charges
.....simple freedom .25 min (roaming 2 mins charge for every one used)
Boost and virgin mobile offer monthly plans by credit card payments.

Talked with a guy who knew what he was talking about in a cell-phone shop who said flashing this tracfone (and most tracfones) doesn't work correctly, after flashing he says it won't actually make calls. I guess this phone is worthless when it runs out of minutes. :-(

Tracfone has phones with all 3 technologies, GSM, TDMA, CDMA. Depending on which model you have it could be any of the 3. Tracfone contracts out to a local provider based on which type you have. I have had 3 tracfones. Two used Verizon (CDMA) and one used Cingular (TDMA). Apparently Cingular uses GSM. However, the old ATT phones now part of Cingular were TDMA and that system is at least partially still in use.
The problem with tracfones is that they are proprietary. Meaning that these phones were made specifically for tracfone with the balance coundown feature part of all their phones. According to the literature their phones can only be used with tracfone even though the model numbers may be the same as on other networks. The phone may be able to be unlocked, however it is doubtful they will work completely on other networks becauce they were designed specifically for them. I do not know of any way that this feature can be removed or other missing features can be added and work properly. It would probably be better (and probably cheaper) just to get a new phone with the new service provider. There are a lot of pretty reasonably priced phones available now. Reconditioned phones are also available by most providers now directly from them. This also applies to NET10 phones as it is only another name for tracfone corporately.
I hope this helps with tracfone issues.
