6600 battery heats up while charging

Hi i hope someone can give me some advice. I was recharging my 6600 yesterday, after around 30 mins i went to check on the mobile, it was excessively hot ! i switched it off immediately and took off the battery which i had to drop cos it was so hot, i couldnt keep it in my hands. I took out the sim and mmc and let the mobile cool down. Today i tried the battery of my friends 6600 which worked fine, which i suppose means that my mobile is ok,phew! but i am not going to try my battery as iam worried something is wrong. Could the battery be the problem or could it be something else? :???:

Is it a geniune Nokia battery or a cheapo if it's the latter then this could be your problem.

it's a genuine battery it came with the mobile itself.
