Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and to the Symbian-powered world as, till last week I used to have a Windows Mobile phone.

Now I am the proud owner of a Nokia 6630 and find myself very comfortable with it except for two things:

1)I write lots of notes and as a result of it I have a ton of text files stored on my memory card.

The built-in "Notes" app is more than enough for me but, as far as I can see it will only save and read to the \c\others default file.

Is there anybody out there which can tell me out to tweak the app's innards (an .ini file perhaps? Where should I look for it?), in order to change its default write/save file?

2) Back with the WM phone I used to have this fantastic program called "Mapopolis" which I'd use to track down addresses, directions etc.
Mapopolis comes in many flavours except the Symbian one
What is the best Symbian equivalent for Mapopolis (provided I don't have a Gps receiver and don't intend to get one anytime soon!)?

TIA

Lorenzo

Hi all,
Hi :)

Welcome to the Symbian world, there is no way out :D

Congratulation on new phone, good choice, 6630 is one of the best series 60 phones ever…

You should try some of various 3rd party application, yEdit is the best one, but also Unteah notepad would help a lot, it has option for storing files on MMC…

To be honest I’m not familiar with Wm applications and therefore I’m not sure what you want but you should try something like mini GPS, cell track, GSM tracker etc...

Hi Teo and thanks a lot for the welcome and the replies.

I am a former Windows Mobile "power user" and I must say that so far I'm not missing this platform.
Symbian is proving to be a solid, flexible operating system which can count on a commited developers community and on a tremendous users base. That coupled to the legendary solidity and quality of Nokia phones in general and of the 6630 in particular make me as happy as can be

That said:

I already have tried Yedit, a very nifty little app!
Fact is that I would like to be able to use the 6630 built-in notes editor and find it difficult to believe that there is no way of tweaking its guts so that it will read and save into \E: path (MMC card) instead of \C: (phone memory). So far I am clueless but there MUST be a workaround that does not preview the use of a thrid party program (I think/hope) :-D.

For what is about the mapping software I've been hunting high and low these last days and the only viable solution I have found is Route66. As it seems it is the only app of its kind with the which I can lookup addresses and create directions without the need of hooking a GPS receiver to the phone but, unlike the Mapopolis I wrote about in my first post, it is NOT cheap at all; not worth the expense for an occasional user like me.
I'll keep looking around. :)
