View Full Version : Unlocking 6230i - advice please

I have purchased a 2nd hand Nokia 6230i which is locked to the Orange network in the UK.

I have got 2 unlocking codes from another website (which I paid for before finding your free code generator - Aaaaargh!) and followed their instructions which say put the code in WITHOUT a SIM insterted.

I thought it was a bit odd that when I put these codes in without the SIM I got the message "Emergency calls only" after entering them, nothing about wrong or invalid code.

Then when I put the alternate SIM in I got a message saying "phone restricted" with an option to unlock & a box to enter a code in.

Having read through the posts on this Forum, I now realise that I should do it WITH MY ALTERNATE TESCO SIM INSERTED (and you should probably have a sticky that tells us which phones need the codes entered with/without a sim card inserted - unless there is one and I missed it).

Question 1 : Will my 2 previous attempts to unlock WITHOUT a SIM inserted count as 2 of the 3 maximum attempts?

Question 2 : How do I know I've got the right codes?
I see a lot of options on your free code generator and I know to choose 6230 (without the i) but I am confused about the other options. I read the stuff about GEN and so on but I don't really understand.

Here is the text that I get when pressing *#0000#

Nokia 6230i
v03.30

RM-72
GSM P1.1
(c) NMP.

Language:
V 03.30
21-04-05
RM72_73_-
GSM P1.1
o

Question 3 : If I enter the wrong code 3 times my phone will be locked and I won't even be able to use the Orange SIM?

Can somebody help me please?

*** UPDATE ***
I've compared the codes I was given by the *other website* with those generated by your free unlocking codes generator when I chose ASIC 6 and he's given me code +1 and +5, but there is 1 digit different in BOTH the codes between his & yours.

Now I'm even more confused! Am I allowed to post the codes here for advice?

I tried it with the code I obtained from the *other website* with my TESCO SIM in and it worked. :-D

So don't worry about this post now, although some clarity for people in a similar situation as to which phones can be unlocked without a SIM inserted and which need the SIM in place would probably solve a lot of problems!

there are several models that require a SIM card inside in order to accept the phone. Obviously we don't know them all unless members mention that when reporting their achievings
but as far as 6230i is concerned there are several posts that tells until which version it needs to have a SIM inside (yes,it's not just about the model b ut also about firmware version ;). So i guess you missed them

anyway, we're glad you managed to do it on your own and realised that there's no need to pay for future codes (NOT BB5 models)

cheers

HOORAY!

I just used your codes from the Unlock Codes link to remove restriction on a 6230i that was locked to Vodaphone UK... Brilliant, worked first time & didn't cost me a penny!

<<Please don't PM me asking how to do it... READ, READ, READ & LEARN!>>>

6230i V3.40 23/05/05 definitely needed a foreign sim inserted to unlock it.

Thanks for the final piece of the jigsaw - after inserting my O2 sim, the unlock code (7) worked perfectly !

Further to my message, my phone was locked onto Vodaphone, so thanks Kafus for highlighting use of 'foreign sim' (O2 in my case).

this a little different not cos of model but cos of provider t-mobile
dont use online cal, download it,set it up,start it,put it into expert mode, select model, enter all info, the bottom drop down say ASIC6 change this, jus drop it dwn select t-mobile(the number then will change)then click calculate.
some these models insert code with different prvider sim in some without, try without 1st,if it does not do nothing, put sim in when it ask restriction, enter number 7 code,if you get code error,do not use any other code until you recheck you settings in calculator,
i remember something bout type *#0000# get version if version below 4.00 use asic6 option if over use t-mobile option, but just do a search for more info on that.
but remember if you get code error 5times only cable option will unlock then if you get code error recheck cos something wrong.
good luck

Nokia 6230i only allows 3 incorrect tries!
