Hi, I have a Nokia 3310 successfully flashed with d:virus V2 mod.
The only change I would like to make is to alter the wording slightly on the Close Button Menu.

I want to change the 'Activate spy' line to 'Activate spm".

Can this be done using the phone's built in editor?

If so can someone give me the 'editor address' for the text in the menu, or advice on how this can be done

Thanks,

Jeff

You could use ppmmaker to change any text in the pack.

Thanks for the fast response. Sorry to appear dense but can you explain your answer please, (in simple terms as I am no expert)?
I was hoping to change the text without flashing the eprom.
Having an editor built in to the software is great, but without knowing where to look I do not have much of a chance to do this.
I was given the phone as a gift, and do not have the facility to make any modifications, other than using the phone's editor.
Am I right in assuming that the entry can be changed from the editor, and if so how do I find the address?
Thanks
Jeff

the editor in the phone is no good for this job. Simple open the flash you downloaded in to ppmmaker and select TEXT, then select your language and then find the string you want to change and the save killing all checks.

You will need to flash the edited file back to your phone.

Thanks for replying so promptly.

I have downloaded PPMManager as suggested.

I have searched for several hours for the flash file. It is V 02.00 (from D:Virus). I am begining to think that the file has been withdrawn?
It is a wonderful bit of programming. Where can I download the .fls file please?

Your site no longer seems to have a download section.

If it is more convenient my email is
[email protected]

Thanks

Jeff

Would someone please be so kind as either let me know where to download the d:virus V2:A .fls file or send it to me.

It is beginning to look as if I got interested in this subject a few weeks too late. I have read most if not all the forum entries about this great mod. Lots of mentions of new releases, and obviously lots of people having access to the files, but now I just cant find any live links at all.

Thanks

Almost there..... I am using the Twister box so I have to convert fls files to pmm before flashing.

I used PPMMAKER (v105) as you suggested, and changed the line as discussed earlier. You mentioned 'killing all checks'? Not exactly sure but I assume that means ticking the Kill CS/FAID option? Anyway I then selected 'save' which created the amended fls file.

After converting this file to ppm I flashed the phone, but it fails at creating ID?

As a check I tried your original flash file, converted it to ppm in the same way and flashed it with no problem.

I assume I am making a mistake when I save the amended file in PPMMAKER?

Any advice would be very much appreciated,

Thanks, Jeff

When you edit a modded flash file more then once you will start to get errors. Try with another program and see if it still causes errors.

OK, I will do that. Before I do can you confirm that I am doing as you suggested regarding PPMMANAGER correctly, in particular the Kill CS/FAID option re your remark about killing checks, and then I click 'save' to create the modded fls file.

I am only modifying one menu line, directly from the flash file you pointed me to above,
Thanks, Jeff

I will try that. Before I do can you just confirm I am using PPMMANAGER as you suggested regarding killing all checks and then saving the file please. Can you elaborate about the 'killing checks'?
I am just changing one line in a menu, using the flash file you pointed me to above. As I mentioned, the original flash file converts to ppm and flashes OK, so I think I must be making a mistake when using PPMMANAGER,

Thanks, Jeff
(Sorry if this gets posted twice... I submitted a reply an hour ago but it was not showing up)

You were (of course) right LOL.

I tried the process using '3310_15-11-05_BFix.fls' (which is on your site), converted it to ppm, and all worked fine, except of course it is not the version I need.

Using 'Pack A.fls' which I downloaded from the link you provided, (unmodified by me), it fails.

Can you tell me where the final version is on your site then please, and I will try that? I just cant seem to find it,

Thanks, Jeff

First I want to say I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

I worked out where the files were on your site. I initially thought they were just language packs.

I downloaded Version 'G'. I put it into PPMMAKER but made no changes. Saved it selecting the 'kill cs/faid' option as an 'fls' file. I converted it to 'pmm', and it flashed fine.

I then went back to PPMMAKER and changed one menu line.... 'Activate spy' to 'Standby mode' (same number of characters incidentally). Saved the modified file, converted it to 'pmm' and the flash failed again (repeated this several times).

I am now using PPMMAKER v.106, I cannot find a later version.

So Version 'G' does flash fine even after going through PPMMAKER, and conversion to 'pmm'. It only fails when a change is made using PPMMAKER???

Very frustrating.

Thanks, Jeff

Used Hex Workshop to amend line and all flashed OK.

Many thanks for help.
