does anyone know if there's anyway to unlock a 6230 through a data cable or can it only be done with a FBUS flashing cable,

Look at the main menu in nfree, the horizontal menu bar.. it says
"Nokia FREE", "User CP", "Member list" ... ... ... ... "Search" ;)
